I don't understand the whole cheating comments and how the Kings would have won if it was called. The kings were handed power plays left and right over BS calls. That still doesn't excuse what Clowe did, but it clearly shows how bad the refs were. No need to blow it up into bickering about how that would have won the game for LA.
Quit crying about officiating. LA got huge advantages over BS calls.
This might've been interference too, but wasn't called.
Bad resolution, but was about 70 seconds left in 3rd...
He fell down on that play and collided with Niemi, doesn't make intentional contact. No call warranted. Any other evidence you want to present to the court about a blown call??
To Sharks fans saying that this is like missing any other 2 minute penalty: wrong.
This affects the integrity of the on-ice action and is outside the scope of the routine penalties which are called every game. This is like an MLB game where someone runs out of the dugout to flip a ball to the 3rd baseman for a good out. It's like someone forcing a turnover in basketball while sitting on the bench. It makes the NHL look bush league and I guarantee they are majorly pissed at both Clowe and the refs for this.
The most confusing thing to me is, how pissed would his teammates have been at him if he gets caught for that? Absolutely bizarre. I can't imagine all of them are pleased to be associated with that kind of circus act.
They would have been on a 5 on 3.. what happened on the last 5 on 3?
Because the Sharks didn't score on a 5 minute PP that proves that they will never score on a PP again for the rest of the game... Just because it happened before doesn't mean it's guaranteed.

I just don't see it as something so out-of-the-blue. There is already an unwritten rule that playing the puck from the bench will result in a penalty (whether interference or too-many-men). Clowe took a dumb risk and it just happened to not bite him in the ***.
There are actually written rules about playing the puck from the bench - two of them in fact (three if you count TMM, though I don't think this one falls under that).
Unsportmanlike prevents "(ii) Any player who is guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct including, but not limited to hair-pulling, biting, grabbing hold of a face mask, etc. If warranted, and specifically when injury results, the referee may apply Rule 21 – Match Penalties.
(iii) Any player who throws any object onto the ice from the players’ or penalty bench (or from any other off-ice location)."
(And yes, this is not really throwing, but it's close enough that they would count it - it falls under the second clause regardless).
Interference says: "A minor penalty shall be imposed on any identifiable player on the players’ bench or penalty bench who, by means of his stick or his body, interferes with the movements of the puck or any opponent on the ice during the progress of the play. In addition, should a player about to come onto the ice, play the puck while one or both skates are still on the players’ or penalty bench, a minor penalty for interference shall be assessed.
The appropriate penalty according to the playing rules shall be assessed when a player on the players’ or penalty bench gets involved with an opponent on the ice during a stoppage in play. The player(s) involved may be subject to additional sanctions as appropriate pursuant to Rule 28 – Supplementary Discipline."
I would say poke-checking the puck away from a player constitutes "being involved with an opponent," and I bet the league will as well. Given all the attention this will attract, they're going to be embarrassed, and they tend to give fairly harsh justice when they feel shown up.

Circus act? The guy was just jacked up and made a stupid decision. It's not like he's some replaceable scrub, like the Kings entire bottom 6, he scored, got an assist and won his 2 fights convincingly.

Give it up already. At the most, he'll get the fine of 2.5 grand.

These are two very quality comparisons. It's not just like missing a hook or a hold. Heck, I bet even if he had been called for a minor+10, he'd get some sort of fine or other wrist slap from the league because it's just such a bush-league move.

He backed into him from 20 feet...

Isn't that what this thread is about, a missed call?
Worst all around reffing I've ever seen live. Kopitar gets crosschecked (no call), then they call the trip (which it was).
We were laughing at the Clowe play, but couldn't believe it wasn't called. They play was completely isolated, everyone else in the building saw it.
Brown took that obvious penalty late in OT, and the Kings practically mauled the sharks on a few plays. Two of them were no brainers that were let go. At that point we were screaming "just tackle him" because nothing was going to come of it. Guys were getting away with crap all night, and the more it was let go, the worse it got. Just bad bad bad.
Unfortunately, I've seen many games this year on TV that were just as poorly called. I don't believe that the refs suck all of a sudden, in general NHL officiating is quite good. After the season is over, I hope a serious look at how the game is called is taken. Maybe the speed is too fast for the refs. Perhaps give them some video help, an off ice guy, something to help them out.

Is that why the NHL put the video on their website as a top headline?
