Often NHL refs get flak unfairly, it is hard to catch everything that goes on, but MAN is that a bad missed call. How do they not see that?
Should have been a minor for sure. Would have made it a 5-on-3 in a tie game with just 2 and half minutes left in the 3rd, pretty damn good chance that ends in a regulation win for the Kings. If I was a Kings fan, I'd be pretty pissed, this blatantly obvious missed call could easily end up being the difference between them finishing 3rd and 7th-8th. With that being said, this clearly is not a suspendable offense.
On the flip side, you could say this is just karma for the Kings cheating with the clock against the Jackets.
I'd like to hear Torts opinion on this one...CLOWE HAS NO RESPECT FOR THE GAME!
Maybe Clowe would have got a fine if the refs/linesmen called a penalty, but I'm thinking the league would rather just sweep this under the rug to avoid further embarrassment for their guys blacking out (only explanation I can think of for 4 guys not watching the play at all) when it happened. Should definitely go on their records though and reduce their chances to work playoff games.
Torts is just raw. He'd probably have been pissed off and emotional and took it way over the line. I like how he doesn't take **** and the players listen to him though. Woulda just been Torts being Torts.
I wish Terry Murray would have still been the Kings coach during this incident because we would have gotten some real serious gems from that dbag.
99.9% of "too many men" PIMS happen by accident. Teams don't intentionally put an illegal player on the ice.
They just don't. Because its dishonorable.
There is a reason why some of us who have watched the game for 30 years (or more in some cases) can't think of a single prior precedent for what Clowe pulled last night.
Its the type of thing most guys would never do. Lowest of the low stuff.
And totally different than "too many men" because it was a deliberate and planned moment which essentially made a travesty of the game.
Vile.
You are acting like Clowe shot someone. The fact that you think this is the lowest of the low makes me question how much you actually watch hockey. You claim you have been watching for 30 years, and this is the worst thing you have ever seen? Really?
It is hilarious watching all these calls for huge suspensions and fines. You would think what Clowe did was worse that McSorely or Bertuzzi or Cooke.
It was an incredibly stupid thing by Clowe, but to call for his head like so many are is insane.
On the flip side, you could say this is just karma for the Kings cheating with the clock against the Jackets.
GG, are you dense? enough with the stupid clock-gate comparisons. The NHL operates the game clock, not the Kings. And nothing re clock-gate was done intentionally.
The Kings may have scored on a resulting Power Play just like the Sharks may have scored if the refs called a penalty for the hit on Mitchell. They equal out. Move on...
This is no worse than hooking, slashing, tripping or any other minor penalty that impedes the opponent. HFBoards never fails to disappoint.
It's not really the same. Maybe when it comes to the rule book, but as a fan what clowe did is disgrace and he cheapened the game. Why don't you think more players more do it? Because it's dis ****ing respectful.
Ryane Clowe learned how to win by studying tapes of Bobby Heenan. I expect him to throw salt in his opponents eyes and pin his opponent down by using his feet against the boards.
The blindside hit on Mitchell when he didn't even have the puck?
C'mon he hit mitchell after micthell got rid of the puck MAYBE a second later. And it was open ice hit Fraser shoulders into mictchells back and i'll agree that it wasn't exactly clean but stop stretching the truth and trying to make more out of it than it actually was.

It's not a missed call. Clowe wasn't an active player on the ice, yet knew exactly what he was doing when he attempted to physically alter a play. The penalty doesn't matter. The player doesn't matter. The teams involved don't matter. No player should be allowed to purposefully alter a play in a physical manner from the bench without facing consequences for such actions. A 2 minute penalty isn't enough. A 2 minute penalty is for players on the ice. Clowe was not on the ice.
Get a grip, seriously. It's a missed call, it's 100% in the rules, and the consequences are crystal clear. 2 minute penalty, end of story.

Clowe is guilty of, at most, disrespecting the game. If he gets any sup. discipline it'll be because he showed how bush league the reffing is and embarrassed the nhl. I don't think he deserves any.

The problem is with the rule book. It is ridiculous that a player can do that and suffer absolutely no consequences. In my mind, the NHL just sent the message that it's okay to cheat and, sometimes, you won't even suffer the consequences.

How do you mention the rulebook then demonstrate complete ignorance of it? Try again, it is 100% in the rulebook that the play is illegal and is worth a minor penalty.

Do you actually watch hockey? How can you say this with a straight face? There are dozens of incidences of cheating that reap actual benefits every day NHL hockey is played.
All of this talk of "disrespect" and "travesty of the game" is just so completely over the top ridiculous I don't know what to say.
Be angry. Call out the refs. Call out Clowe for breaking the rules and getting away with it. That's totally fine and I understand. LA got screwed over pretty badly and I'd be pissed too. I don't support what Clowe did because it could have, and should have, cost the Sharks pretty dearly.
But to act like Clowe broke some age old unwritten rule and apparently violated everything sacred about the sport of hockey is flat out one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
What Clowe did was no different than playing with an illegal stick curve. Cheating? Sure. Should have been a penalty? Of course. Suspension worthy? Vile? A travesty? Grow up.
