Russians are a good example of what playing for your country means.
I love that russian mentality and proud to play for your country. Would be nice if some more teams would have that kind of mentality..............

There is the roster for two games vs Latvia. It looks close enough to a final one except some NHL first rounders (Malkin, Datsyuk, Ovy?):

Goalies: Varlamov (Avs), Barulin (Atlant), Mikhail Biryukov (Yugra)
Defs: Nikulin, Medvedev, Korneev (Ak Bars), Denisov, Kalinin (SKA), Nikitin (Columbus), Evgenii Biryukov (Metallurg Mg), Emelin (Montreal)
Forwards: Burmistrov (Jets), Tikhonov, Makarov, Tarasenko (SKA), Svitov (Salavat Yulaev), Zaripov, Tereschenko (Ak Bars), Kuznetsov, Burdasov (Traktor), Ketov, Shipachev (Severstal'), Shirokov (CSKA), Zherdev (Atlant).

Tikhonov-Makarov-Tarasenko can be a special line. They were great in playoffs.

Don't quite agree with you that this will be close to the final roster:

Kulemin wasn't in today's squad.

Perezhogin, Anisin, Gorovikov, Frolov++ from the final teams in KHL could fight for some spots.

And Kovalchuk, Malkin, Datsyuk, Ovechkin all seem to lose in the first round in the playoffs in NHL.

Together this could mean alot of changes from today's roster.

All in all, I believe Russia will field a very strong team in the WC!

A change for the better, it wasn't like that in the 90's and early 2000's.

Seems like Russia might get a sick team this year... I can't wait, it's going to be awesome to see them playing.

Whats strange with that? I guess he wants to talk to his family first etc before saying yes.

Considering Zetterberg has to pass a medical test(to be done Tuesday) to go, I assume Pavel will have to aswell. Pavel looked a little injured in the playoffs to us Wings fans. Hopefully he isn't.

i think they get paid. but seven-figure amounts of dollars for a two-week tournament? i dont think so. but i see why you said that. sportsmen's salaries in russia are simply absurd

Malkin told the media yesterday that he will go & Datsyuk gave Bilyaletdinov his Okay during the regular season.

he said: In the the case he will be out of the playoffs and healthy he will join the team.

But for the moment there is no official statement. we have to wait. but it sound great.

@DetroitRedWings
Pavel Datsyuk skated this morning at JLA. Says he hasn't made a decision on competing in the upcoming World Championships.

Patriotism

I have to applaud players like Malkin and datsyuk and ovechkin who always represent their Mother Russia, its disgraceful that Canadian players will reject to play for Team Canada in the worlds. there is no excuse other than injuries and personal s*** to not play for your nation. Ignla, Crosby,Nash and many no shows should hang their heads in shame. I would rather win the World Championships then the Stanley cup any day of the year. WHEN YOUR COUNTRY ASKS YOU TO PLAY YOU PLAY FOR YOUR NATION.
