Yea I'll be cheering for the Flyers and not just because it would be better for the Bruins if the Penguins lost.
These Flyers are much different than the John Stevens teams....Only thing I have to complain about is Hartnell and Sestito's hit on Horton and it wasn't even that bad of a hit.
On the other hand we have the legendary knee on knee and cheapshotter Cooke.
I still don't give the Flyers much of a chance though. I don't really see anyone beating the Penguins over a 7 game series...Their best players are just too good.
Flyers will be targeting them,If refs dont stick it to Philly steady they can win,
I think you are missing the point. Most posters are indicating that there is favourtism towards Pittsburgh. That may be so, but not in the play that 'Tortsie' is whining about.

There IS favoritism toward the Penguins. Has been for quite some time. Or rather... There sure ****ing seems to be. I don't know if there actually is. They sure seem like the squeaky ****ing wheel though.
And I still don't think you make up for one mistake by making another. That's a dangerous play with the potential for terrible consequences. And unless you can reasonably deduce that it was nothing but accident, it should be handled by supplementary discipline. It's a joke that the only one "suffering" a penalty in this instance, is John Tortorella.
Yeah, maybe McQuaid should have gotten something, as it is a dangerous play for both the receiver and sender.
Not making excuses, just food for thought: When a forward makes a cut to blow by the pinching or flat footed defenseman, the D-man's instinctively going to make a move to try to impede their opponent. In many instances, you only see leg contact because of a reactionary move and being out of position because your legs move to support you wherever you lean. In the McQuaid one, he get's beat, tries to lean into Foligno and his leg comes out to support him, and unfortunately Foligno and McQuaid made leg contact.
Again, not making excuses. Just a physiological explanation to why kneeing hits may occur.
FWIW, watching the McQuaid video again (missed that game, didn't see it real time) and the Orpik vid, McQuaid's looked worse.
So, McQuaid should also have gotten 5 for his knee on Foligno ?
No. What McQuaid did was a glorified trip. He was static, a/b to get torched and stuck out his leg, but he has no body weight on it.
When you're in motion, close w/ another player, plant your edge into the ice, and drive it into an opponent's knee, the physics are all different. It's like ramming your knee into iron. Just ask Cam Neely, who was bruised down to the bone.
Mcquaid sticking his leg out was stupid. It made the guy fall, no odd man rush, but he got up. Orpick, not so much.
Want to call it bias? Go ahead, could care less. But it's the truth.
One reason I think Torts got the fine though was all the swears. I also think in some ways Torts is kind of like the league agitator. He yaps a lot, says a lot of things that are truthful, but delivers it in a way that gets him smacked b the guys in charge.
As for the first round of the playoffs-I kind of think the nicest thing about the Pens and the Flyers is that no matter who comes out of that match up alive, they are going to be beaten and battered.
The team that faces the winner in the second round can thank the loser for softening them up.
It is a series I want to watch (but then I confess to have a huge Giroux infatuation and a severe Crosby hate).

Seeing as though you have no points in which to disagree with '08, I'll just have to assume that you're attempting to prove a point by being obtuse.
Personally, I still think that Quaider's knee was dangerous and should have been disciplined as plays such as that are. But I can't find fault in Neely's assessment either. The two plays are anything but even stevens.

He said "Mcquaid sticking his leg out was stupid". He did not say it was dangerous. That means you disagree with Neely08.
We will see how much everyone here likes Callahan and 'Torts' if Callahan ever lays out a Bruin like this.
Neilsen tried to pull a bantam "high jump" move to avoid taking a hit. The NHL is a contact league (for now). Nothing intentional there on Callahan's part. But, as you point out, people see what they want to see.
Watch it again, McQuaid's skate comes completely off the ice, therefore no weight on it. Orpik?
And, if I remember correctly Foligno played the PP.
Subtle, but there is a big difference between someone doing something reactionary, and a guy coming in from the neutral zone looking to strike the first blow before the playoffs. You are allowed to discriminate. But I've been around long enough to see what you're all about, so.
The “arrogance” of the Pittsburgh ownership to which Tortorella referred is a sense of entitlement bestowed upon it by a league that appears more invested in protecting the Penguins than opponents who might be injured as a result of reckless plays that somehow always are deemed accidental or not worthy of NHL sanction.
