The algorithm I use to determine the rating weighs heavily on what is seen on TV. We all clearly saw Malkin's cross check... we didn't see Coburn's highstick until they showed a replay... and since the replay was shown AFTER Malkin's cross check, it doesn't count.

The logic in the algorithm is flawless.

What did Vitale's fight today do for his dirt rating? I believe we all witnessed him slugging that nice young man in the face repeatedly before flinging him to the ice.

Well, after running the numbers it didn't go up or down. The key factors I believe are as follows:

1) No hits that resulted in injury
2) His fight was not instigated, was fast, and was decisive with no dirty moves. He also removed his helmet for the fight.

So despite his brutal actions toward the helpless victim, it looks like it was a wash.
