I´d rather see Lidstrom win his 5th cup or the Sedins win their first but the WC is usually interesting to watch, especially when there are many NHL players on the team.
Impossible to say what players that might be available right now. Edmonton, Anaheim, Columbus, Minnesota, Montreal, Carolina, NYI = Only Engqvist that is not AHL playoffs bound.
If we look at the Czech hockey games first it looks like Gunnarsson and Landeskog could be available. And probably either Johansson or Enström depending on what team that takes the 8th spot in the EC.
^ Makes you think the Finns are deliberately sucking this year to play the Worlds at home. Except Selänne of course, he's always awesome. Seems like they have a chance to get a quality center or two..

With a few strategic NHL players we might be a perfect underdog team. With Enroth, Hedman, Enström or Karlsson, Landeskog and Eriksson we don't have to employ the Jämtin, Frögren and Ersberg bunch.
I have an idea. Since we might mobilize quite some defense with players like Ekholm - Larsson, Enström - Hjalmarsson, Ekman-Larsson - Hedman
and Kronwall - Gunnarsson (yes, four defense pairings just like the finns last year) I wonder if a player like Erik Karlsson might be thought of as a winger. Karlsson - Bäckström - Alfredsson? Or does it disqualify him not being a true forward?
Alfie in WC? last time he participated in WC was like 6-7 years ago, but you should never say never I guess.
There's been a lot of no thanks from him over the years for sure, and a lot of different reasons. But I haven't seen him say he would never play for the National team again, so you never know.
Bäckström is skating regularly and could be back soon. Would Washington stop him from the WC with the risk of him getting dinged again? Dunno, but that would be interesting. Reunite our best line from the Olympics Eriksson-Bäckström-Alfie would be pretty neat. The setup of that line is great.
Put Karlsson and Enström on the back end and that 1st unit would be pretty dangerous..

He IS old. But he still score points and is a leader we might not get in the tournament. He has one lousy year left on his contracy that pays him one lousy buck-mille.
So...he might retire after winning a WC gold in Hartwall Arena.
Karlsson would not be half the player he is if he had been a forward. He gets most of his points from outlet-passes and shots from the point.
This is true. He's got more ways to bite you offensively from the back end than he does from in close.

Or the next year in Globen, I might add.
Only way I see Alfie playing if they miss the playoffs and it's his final year and he does so to play on the National team with Karlsson before he retires. Otherwise, doubtful.
I don't think there's a chance he plays this year as long as he's planning on playing in the NHL next year. And by the sounds of it, he probably is playing next year.
Forwards: Niclas Bergfors, Severstal, Robin Figren, Linköping, Simon Hjalmarsson, Lulea, Niklas Olausson, Lulea, Sebastian EnterFeldt, Lulea, Dennis Rasmussen, Vaxjo.
So Omark has said he would rather play the World Champs than the AHL playoffs. I guess that means Omark couldn't care less about Edmonton next season, looking elsewhere NHL/Europe.
Question is, do we want Omark at the World Champs? Probably not..

Only Kronwall has a realistic chance(and a pretty big one) at the World Champs, imo. What's the point of this camp, will there be juniors filling in so they can play some intra-squad games or something? Or will they add Frolunda/HV/Modo players to the camp?

IIRC he can't get sent down without clearing waivers. Hence, he's more likely to play the WC then AHL-playoffs.

Probably, but the (eventual) team picking him up from waivers could also only use him in the AHL playoffs(at most, not even sure if he could play in the playoffs for the new team). So the point he made with that comment pretty much stands no matter what happens. At this point, I don't think the Oilers are hesitant to put him on waivers at all. With an expiring contract, he would probably rather play in Europe than sign a new two-way deal with the Oilers.
Personally I think Omark is more likely to play in the AHL playoffs or be done for the season, because he won't get close to the World Champs

That has obviously to do with his position as defenseman. If he was a winger he would score his points in a different way. Note: I am not saying that he should be a forward.

He might not have the physical edge to be a forward. Especially not on a first line as I suggested earlier. But if the choice between who we pick to our team is between, say Niklas Persson or Niklas Hjalmarsson, I would at least think of the possibility to use Karlsson as a winger. Magnus Johansson's no thanks and Enströms (smallish defenders) possible Stanley Cup run makes this question less important, though.
Defense core:
- Hedman (if he doesn't play we can forget about gold)
Gunnarsson - Kronwall
Ekholm -

Maybe Hjalmarsson has a small chance at a fourth line position. He impresses in international games.
