First round chatter: Rangers or Devils and how either will outcome

Obviously we all want the division, and I believe we will achieve that, but who knows.

We match up very well against the Devils, i see us winning in 6.

No one matches well against Lundquist, id say Rangers in 6, but ive seen a night watchman killed during the day.

I think our tight play & experienced roster will give us better results than expected; we will go as far as Theo takes us.

Let the chatter begin, and Sunday we can close this thread.

I am secretly hoping for NJ - partly because I think we have a better chance against them, and partly for the possibility of beating PDB

Never crossed my mind...

Actually i am happy for him, he cut his teeth and screwed up some here IMHO, but thats not his fault that he took a rare opportunity for a junior coach to headcoach first job in NHL. I think he carried his experiences and it looks like he deals with both veterans and rookies in a better fashion. Good on him.

Yes I definitely want to win the division. It feels great to be in, but it will feel slightly lackluster if we blow the division, that's for sure.

Note that game dates/times will be decided on Sunday (NHL Network is actually doing a 1pm show on this).

Surprised no one has mentioned this yet (I know it's been a very long time). I have 3 reasons I want the Devils:

1) Means a divisional banner
2) Going against PDB
3) REVENGE!!! Last playoff trip was a 4 game sweep at the hands of these clowns.

Ill never understand the hate for Pete. The man was promised one thing and given NOTHING. He had an AHL team most nights and for a guy who is used to winning his entire coaching career it took a toll on him, so what if he was an ass to some players. Nobody is happy when you are losing.

Pete has players in NJ, is winning and the players love him.

Anyway, the Cats match up best vs Pete, so I would say NJ. Home ice would be a big factor.

All good reasons (I don't really hate Pete but it makes for a good story to play against him). As for the revenge factor, true but keep in mind the Rangers also knocked us out in 97. So it's revenge either way, heh. I felt a little better in 2000 knowing we had faced the eventual champs in round 1.

I dont understand all the PDB hate. He was not a bad coach. He almost got us to the playoffs with almost no talent. He never spoke badly about the team when Tallon gave him the heave ho. Why is it that everyone can be all roses and puppy dogs for Booth or other players who were traded away, but for PDB its all animosity.

But to the topic at hand. I want that division champs banner so bad thats all that matters to me. The consolation prize of moving up 10 spots in the draft is nice, but I want that banner.

fans are fans. that's my explanation

and i have some news for folks - pete wants us more than we want him, you can bet on that. and he will have a room full of players that know he was screwed in FL. that is not going to be an easy series and could be ugly. the way the rangers are built and are playing, i don't think we'd come close to taking a game from them. kinda like what happened in our last playoff series - men vs boys.

The pete thing is a twist if we play the devils. i have met him personally a few times, he is a good guy. he was fired, it probably means more to him than us.

After three years here, some will learn to hate Dineen. Its the nature of sports.

We will beat the devils.

I don't even care, I'm sure will beat whatever evil force we're matchup with.

But I rather not play against Lundqvist, a low scoring team going up against the leagues best goaltender is going to be extremely tough.

And some poster on the Devils board have been talking **** about us every meeting this year, so I'd love to piss on them. Like Weiss said, if we play like last night we're going to be fine. 60 minutes domination vs the Caps, unfortunately we didn't win that one, but I'm sure we can do that over a series.

Playoff hockey baby!!

i don't hate him at all, i just said it'd make for a good story. there's more history there than us vs. the rangers and it would make it more interesting.

i wasn't a big fan of pete but i don't doubt he did the best he could with what he had. he has been given a much better team and as a result has seen some success, and it would be fun to match us up.

Pete is a really nice guy.

I can't believe it but I agree with what zero said fans are fans. that's my explanation . That's just the nature of sports fans. Sometimes it's backed by fact - and sometimes it is pure fiction.

As a Rookie Coach he screwed up big with Boynton and that had an effect on the team. He probably did learn alot from that. He was then left with the AHL team for the remainder of his time here.

add Madden playing his old Stanley Cup team.....

I want the Devils because I do not believe we can beat the Rangers right out the gate. Maybe deeper after we get some wheels, but right away it's not going to happen.

Here's to the division and the Devils!

New Jersey Devils for all the reason mentioned.
Also, my buddy is a Devils' fan and I'd like for him to come to game 1 with me.

i really have no opinion. Any success from here on out is simply a cherry on top of surpassed expectations.

I don't hate Pete at all. I was one of his biggest supporters right up until the end of his tenure. I just think it's a good added story line. My big reason is vengeance for the last time we made the postseason.

PR: We at least took 1 game against those Gretzky-led Rangers. While I despise the Rag$ as a franchise far more than the Devils, I just want us to kick the Devils ***** more in this case because it's the last time we went and got swept.

we can all agree here ....we fans are over it, he might not be after being axed, but no one cares.
It'll just make good fodder in the papers.

There is less than zero pressure on us either way no one outside of the arena will give us a shot at winning one game ... Kind of what I went thru in football with gmen....LOVE IT!!!!

Is it game one yet????

I want the Divison, I want the Devils!

I see us doing better against the Devils than against the Rangers..As many of you said. I dont wanna face Lundquist. Later in the playoffs, yes but not in the 1st round.
We have an even record and there are no shootouts. But we have to do a different strategy in overtime. 1-7 in OT is horrible as well.

ŽLets do this! I think everyone agrees that Washington deserves no division at all. They got a lucky win yesterday and played really bad. We didnt play well either but wouldnt there be the refs we might have gotten into Overtime.

Beat the Canes!

Curious if anyone knows: Do we have to declare a captain for the playoffs? Has any time ever been in the playoffs without a captain?

No idea if it has been done before, but I don't believe there is a rule regarding having someone designated as "Captain" on the ice.

I know GR had tweeted that there would be no captain named for the playoffs. I'll try and find his tweet.
