Give more minutes to Smith, and Jagr gets another shot with a true Cup Contender.

Eh, I don't know, I'm not a huge fan of trading a guy like Jagr when it was a major coup to sign him in the first place. I'd rather keep him around for the young players to learn from and if he has a good year to solidify our chances of re-signing him.

I would be really upset if we got rid of Ryder or Jagr. If we are in playoff contention at all, these guys need to be here

No man, I think you're missing what I'm getting at. People who spend a ton of time working with charities generally do so because they genuinely feel that it's important to be selfless and help out others who are less fortunate. They feel that way because they have a human brain with human emotions. If they didn't they wouldn't get a warm feeling from helping out a complete stranger. The (selfish) incentive in this scenario is that warm feeling inside. To continue the analogy, that warm feeling inside would be comparable to the feeling an athlete gets from winning. Morrow fought tooth and nail for every inch of ice because I'm sure there's something inside him that ****ing loves winning. None of that has anything to do directly with "giving" anything to the Dallas Stars. He got something out of it too.

I will add to all of this that it seems when the ship started going down his effort really dropped off. Then the bad mojo kept going for a number of various reasons, most likely things he had no control over. What he did have control over was his effort. The degree to which his effort has waned in recent years isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of his leadership qualities, which is sad because I would never have thought that would be possible watching the 24-27 year old version of Morrow.

Definitely, which is my way of saying we should probably stop circle-jerking over these guys as much as we do, especially when the vast vast majority would have zero problem pulling on the jersey of a different team if it meant they had a better chance to win or could make more money. It's all a business. I don't take it too personal when they leave my team nor do I think it should be held against a team for walking away from a player. Very few players in professional sports are truly "owed" anything by an organization, and even whatever is owed can be collected upon in retirement in the form of a cushy front office job that nobody is really sure what duties you perform.

Didn't see this posted anywhere so....

Quote:
Dallas Sports and Entertainment LP, the parent company of Frisco-based Dallas Stars Hockey Club, announced Wednesday it has refinanced a $95 million loan with a consortium of banks, which completes the recapitalization of the professional hockey team.

The deal was co-led by Bank of America Merrill Lynch and BBVA Compass, with Comerica as the administrative agent of the deal and HSBC.

The refinancing deal completes Tom Gaglardi's acquisition of the Dallas Stars, which began November 2011, said Jim Lites, president and CEO. Gaglardi purchased the Stars for $267 million.

I'll be pissed if we trade Jagr, playoff contenders or not. After his comments and his attitude towards the team, we'd be stupid to trade a guy like that.

Ryder, Morrow, and Robidas should really be the only pieces we consider trading, Ryder depending mostly on how Fraser (or another forward prospect) develops.

Just throwing this at a wall to get thoughts.

I know this has been done on the trade forum, but I hate reading what other teams fans think

What do you guys think about a Benn-Subban type of swap?

Hell no. Suban appears to have issues other than not being able to agree to a contract.

You're trading a position you already lack depth in for a position you already have some solid prospect depth even if it's not so strong in the NHL just yet.

Bad move.

We could use some of that depth to trade for a center though, no?

Subban is a top pairing defenseman who does it all. Fits exactly what we need on the back, and the team seems to be doing decently without Benn right now. Why not trade for a center at the deadline with the chips we have, or use FA for it?

in theoretical terms, a pure benn-subban swap, a #1 center for a #1 dman, seems pretty fair to me. but considering the makeup of the rest of the organization, i wouldn't bite. the front office would look particularly foolish for hyping up benn so much until now, only to trade him. joe schmoe fan wouldn't like it either.

come to think of it, i don't recall a straight up rfa for rfa trade. usually, each rfa is more valuable to the team that retains his rights than to the supposed trading partner.

Stars posted a neat video of Daley and Whitney flying with the Snowbirds. Sounds like they are the Canadian version of the Blue Angels I guess.

Interesting note for me even though they don't say a date, this seems like a video shot during the lockout. They were not permitted to use player's images during the lockout, but I guess they could still film and hold the stuff for a later date.

If Whitney is Maverick, does that make Daley Goose? Things could get confusing here.

Obviously it looks fair on paper, but I think everyone here would still much rather keep Benn. If it got to the point where things went way south, then of course there probably wouldn't be a better trade out there unless a team sold their future for Benn.

They don't fly as fast as the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds, but they fly a hell of a lot tighter. This was probably done at Fort Worth Alliance's airshow over the summer, Oct 19th and 20th. It was an effin' good show.

If we aren't going to give Benn the money/term he wants why would we give Subban the money he is looking for. Subban's group is looking for like 6 mil a year.

I think both players are worth what they're seeking.

I definitely think Benn is worth the money we've been hearing about (5.5 or around there). I think what GMJN is making sure that the Benn contract is a precedent for the rest of the young forwards we have coming up, if he caves to Benn's demands and gives him what he wants then he can't try and get Smith, Chaisson, Eakin, Fraser, etc on bridge deals or at a discount.

Oh I agree, I was just saying I think they're both being fair in what they're asking for.

This doesn't have an impact on the game so seemed like this was the best place:

Stars expected to recall Tomas Vincour from Texas Stars. Colton Sceviour headed back to Texas.
I can't imagine they'd recall him just for him to sit. At 22 he should be playing so I wonder if this means Garbutt is going to be the 13th forward.

EDIT: I guess Wandell could be coming out though, but they don't really have another center for the 4th line.

Dallas Stars aren't the only team with a sense of humor:

Apparently Coach Desjardins' auction basket at Casino Night included a whiteboard. Now that's a sense of humor. @DefendingBigD

Rather have Vincour in than Garbutt, especially if it's between Wandell or Garbutt coming out.

Would make sense.
