Bring in a Maloney/Tippett combo

If the Coyotes do get sold and moved to wherever, Trippet has an out in his contract and I think Maloney does too. How about importing that duo?

Oilers roster is the antithesis of a Dave Tippett team. Horcoff and Belanger would be playing 25 minutes per game. He's a darn good coach but not a fit here.

May as well trade anyone with any offensive ability first.

How about cloning Paul Maclean, instead? They can do that now, right? Clone a guy? I think I read that somewhere.

It would be so boring to watch Oil games I wouldn't bother watching even if we were in the middle of a 10 game winning streak.

Oh, and not like we have to worry about this, but..

DAL 2003–04 2nd in Pacific Lost in round 1
DAL 2005–06 1st in Pacific Lost in round 1
DAL 2006–07 3rd in Pacific Lost in round 1
DAL 2007–08 3rd in Pacific Lost in conference finals
DAL 2008–09 3rd in Pacific Missed playoffs
PHX 2009–10 2nd in Pacific Lost in round 1
PHX 2010–11 3rd in Pacific Lost in round 1

And I bet I know what's going to happen this year.

If you misspelled his name twice, I have little faith in your knowledge of the man.

It seems to be forgotten but Dave Tippett is one of the top PP coaches in the league. It's hard to blame him for the fact the Coyotes are defensive, he's making the most out of what he's got. In saying that the PP doesn't seem to need any significant improvment, its obviously been great this year. However knowing that the PP and even PK can get it done, having a coach who can make the team better at even strength has it's benefits even if it results in less offense (which is doubtful as our offense at EV's is ridiculously bad iirc). I don't think he has this bias against young/offensive players that people seem to imply, he just knows how to win. He's a very good coach IMO, and would do just fine here. Hopkins is a special talent, he'll play, he's going to make a difference on both sides of the rink and that's all a guy like Tippett is looking for.

I don't trust him around our kids. No thanks.

Anyone who coaches here is going to have to coach uptempo, offense first hockey for the next couple of years.

It's that simple. Trying to force anything else with a group this young is simply trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

Saw Brownlee throwing this idea around the other day as well.

Really hope it never happens though. Oilers have been selling terrible hockey for years now, last thing they need to do is move to terrible hockey with a slightly better winning record. He's a vet kind of guy which the Oilers won't be able to support, and his teams over the last few years could have run for the world-wide title of "dullest entertainment product - Sports category".

Tippet trusts young players. Schlemko, OEL, Boedkker, Hanzal are examples of young players whoare trusted. Turris wasn't doing the things he needed to do in Tippett's estimation, you pay a coach to make those determinations. Turris hasn't been some kind of superstar in Ottawa, he started off hot but has cooled since. His 28 points in 48 games for them is Sam Gagner-lite numbers, although his +12 does look good.

Uptempo hockey is fine but first we need a coach/defense that can eliminate the fire drills in our own end. The Edmonton Oilers do not transition the puck well enough to be the uptempo team you desire. For the offense to come for this group they need to get it done defensively. Teams aren't going to be willing to play the Oilers in a shootout type game most nights, the forwards are going to have to deal with heavy checking. These are the games where breakdowns are magnifyed, and a team like the Oilers are going to require an ability to cope in these games, as like i said earlier, teams are going to try and impose that style of game.

They need to be stronger in their systems play, a coach like Tippett should bring that. The Oilers are a creative team, but well structured systems are the hall mark of consistent teams. The best teams can be creative at the best of times and more typically fall back on their systems. Teams create systems to protect the players, having a strong defensive unit is going to help the team attack, as they should be well supported when attempting to make a play.

No to Tippett. Yes, to Maloney.

Yup, it's already started with the mis-spelling of people's names.

On Hotstove, they seem to think Nelson will be promoted to head coach next year.

If you could clone a guy, clone Hitchcock.

Worse choice than Tippett for a young, offensive team.

Quick, someone suggest Tortorella too.

This team needs to learn how to play defence to have success.
