I know what you mean , but even after a win , i'm not happy about the way we won . Things could be so much better with another coach playing another style of play . The dump and chase hockey style doesnt work with the kind of players we have . A coach will play that system when he have a weak linenup with no talented players on his roster . You dont play dump and chase hockey when you have guys like Statsny , Duchene , Duke and RoR on board.
People who think the Avs will finish above 500 with a better coach and make the playoffs better think twice. I think with a better coach they might finish right at 500 or maybe one or two games above 500.
With Sacco they are going to finish below 500, and in both cases they will miss the playoffs, because even one or two games above 500 wont get you in post season. But still, im all for a coaching change, even though like i said i don't think this team is going to make the playoffs this year.
But i guess being a 500 team, or 1 or 2 games above is better than being below 500. And also if this team is going to push for a playoff spot, i really think the winning has to start right now. (regardless if i think they wont make the playoffs) i still say anything is possible.
The Avs are 6 points out of the 8th spot right now, if they drop down to about 10 points back i think they are done. And now the injuries are starting to hit this team. The December will actually be the month for this team to make or break their season.
If by January this team drops 10 or 15 or so points back from 8th spot, the season will be lost, because i don't think the teams in front of them will start losing bunch of games in a row while the Avs are not capable of putting a long win streak together.
There are no more rooms for error, win one lose one wont cut it. Avs have 7 more games in December, i'd say they have to win at least 5 of this games to stay in playoff picture.
The Avs will win just enough that we won't be buyers or sellers at the Trade Deadline, and we'll stand pat...again.
For this season I would prefer that.
I dont want any big Franchise changing trades like last season with EJ and company.
I would much rather us stay Status Quo this year, finish at around .500 and make our moves next offseason. We have alot of people that need to be signed and there are alot of solid ufa's coming up in the Offseason, I would prefer we sign our core and sign some free agents like Parise Grabovski Ruutu Gleason etc to fill the wholes we need.
I think with Sacco behind the bench we will be a .500 team, just not enough consistentcy to go above .500 or anywere near playoffs. Im thinking something like 39-39-4 at years end, Should mean our pick isnt a Top 6-8 pick, but we wont be a playoff team which was ultimatly what managment hoped for at seasons begin. If we get rid of Sacco and bring in someone like Carlyle or JM or Murray, someone who we know can coach well and bring a system to the Avs then I can see us finishing with a pretty decent record, but that change needs to happen before Jan 1st. If we make the coaching change in time I can see a 45-35-2 type of record. Might be good enough for playoffs, might just be outside.
I do think this team has enough talent to stay out of the bottom 5, then it becomes a matter of whether we improve the chemistry of the team, Sacco gets replaced, or we get hot and go on a nice streak.
