Now I'd rather see Stastny traded, the lack of emotion from him is what really drives me insane. He's been angry what like once?
Maybe it's just because I see ROR wearing his heart on his sleeve and being genuinely upset about losing last night, then you see Stastny and he's trying to hold back his smile. However I just don't see Stastny playing like he cares, yes he's played better this second half but his body language is still the same. There's a big difference between keeping your legs moving and being flashy.
Really...I watched the same interview...how was he trying to hold back a smile? Just because he was more composed than ROR doesn't mean he doesn't care.
I'd rather have Duchene. Duchene is accused of not putting in the effort every night, I wach Columbus more than most of you and I can guarantee you Nash puts in even less effort. When he does then he's the better player (this season at least) but it's a concerning trend for a veteran.
And with Duchene, he's still trying, just not working for him but he doesn't float and he plays his shifts hard.
I'd never do this trade, would feel betrayed if it was done.

Not to mention Duchene is at least 6 years younger than Nash.
I probably would not. Nash is currently a much better player than Duchene, but I am not too impressed with Nash's play versus Duchene's "assetability". If Nash was sufficiently motivated -- and perhaps that is as simple as leaving Columbus -- to play at the level he can consistently, then I would reluctantly admit that I would make the move barring an alternative of a top-pairing defenseman (or one on the precipice) on the table.
Ultimately, if the choice was keeping Duchene long-term or acquiring Nash then I'd trade for Nash. Otherwise I'd view alternative trading options.
Duchene has had an injury plagued season, and an off-year.
He is capable of putting up Nash-like numbers.
He is younger and cheaper.
However, he is not the leader that Nash is.
He does not provide the same type of game-in, game-out effort and consistency that Nash does.
And finally, no one has ever seen Nash play with a half-decent team around him, so who knows what he could accomplish...
So I pose the question, would you?
Lines could look like this next season...
McGinn, Stastny, Nash
Landeskog, O'Reilly, Downie
Van Der Gulik, Porter, Mueller
McLeod, McClement, Kobasew
McNasty line.... I like it... but I wouldn't trade Duchene for him.
I would take Nash hands down. This has nothing to do with Duchene and the poor season he has had. I realize Duchene is younger but Nash clearly has more value. Did you guys not see what Columbus got offered for Nash?? Duchene wouldn't get an offer near that.
Nash is such an underrated player. Columbus has absolutely no one that helps Nash out on Columbus. On top of everything people are saying Nash has a poor attitude and that he doesn't work hard on the ice. Thats so far from the truth. Nash works way harder in the defensve zone and in battles for the puck then Duchene. Did anyone see how dominant he was in the olympics?
If we got Nash everyones opinion would change I am almost positive of that. Other teams wouldn't have offered him as much as they did if Nash wasn't an elite player.
I take Nash 7 days out of the week. And I love Duchene and think he is going to be a great player in the NHL , and I realize he is only 21 but I still do this trade with ease. Nash would turn this team around and he is a player I would love on the AVS
Not sure where everyone is getting the whole Duchene isn't a team guy thing, he's been an Avs fan since he was a little kid, he goes out there and tries.
Anyway, I wouldn't trade Duchene for anyone at this point, he's still 21 and has the potential to be a PPG player. He just had an off year and has been battling injuries most of the season. He'll be fine.

If nothing else, he tries too hard... to do too much by himself. Totally agree with point per game potential too. In fact, he sustained it for half the year last season.

I agree, he does try to carry the team on his back, if he just simplifies his game and works out hard over the summer he'll be just fine.
We are all aware of Duchene's shortcomings until this point in terms of his game. Off the top of my head: I would list them in the following order:
1. Too soft on the puck
2. Not good enough use of his linemates
3. Average shot technique
4. Over-ambitiuos playing style
5. Too much reliance on his natural talents (speed, skating, puck handling, technique)
Perhaps I am missing a few, but these issues are the ones I have been able to observe during games, everything else is merely speculation. In general I think it is absolutely madness to infer from that that a) he doesn't care, or b) he does not have the ability to become any better. Especially when these comments are made during in an injury-riddled season, and we do not know to what extent these injuries have hampered his play. (And, no, I'm not making an excuse, I am merely stating the fact that he has been plagued by injuries this season). It is possible that these issues are related to lack of confidence or it could be the other way around, but we have absolutely no way of knowing that, heck, maybe he does not even know himself. It would be even more crazy to trade him now when his trade-value is low due to his poor season. Lock him up, support him, and inspire him to work hard on his shortcomings. If he does I have absolutely no doubt that he will be a star in this league. He almost assuredly will never be as good as Sakic or Forsberg, but they were both two of the very best in the league for a very long time, so I do not think we should compare him to those guys, and I hope he doesn't himself. In fact I have a hard time finding anyone in the league whose playing style matches Duchene's, maybe Pat Kane, but until this point at least he has better passing, vision and shot Duchene, but they are similar in terms of having superior skating and puckhandling.
Mueller and McGinn are pretty sure-fire top 6...as long as they're healthy.
And Downie and Jones if they're all back. Olver is top 9 caliber and we really have just as many solid NHL-claiber wingers as we have solid NHL-Caliber dmen, we lack top end talent at both positions, but with 3 scoring lines like we can roll with our C depth, there's a lot less emphasis on having an elite wingers as there is on adding a top pairing LHD.
