Yep. Being afraid of a team because their goalie is on a nice little hot streak is pretty silly. Phoenix has been unable to win a playoff series in two matchups (vs. Detroit) with the same team they have right now... except, of course, they had a better goalie than Smith the past two.

Besides, it is hardly a sure thing. Minnesota's been playing well... could easily face LA or the Sharks in Round 1.

The reaction in the GDT on the Wings board is pretty funny.

Isn't that funny.

The Wings stop us from clinching 5th and moments later the Hawks stop the Wings from clinching home ice advantage.

I wasn't very keen on playing Nashville anyways - at the same time I'm kinda pissed the Hawks couldn't keep that 2 goal lead.

Still a win tho I suppose.

What if we got San Jose, Nashville then Vancouver?

I think another Vancouver/Hawks WCF would be a hoot..

Admittedly I only saw the last 12 mins of regulation...then even missed OT and the shoot out (did just re-watched that part of it) but Pavel D had the worst look on his face as I have ever seen for a guy who just scored the game tying goal in the fianl minute of a game! Classic! And then Detroit wants to win it in OT and shootout to have a shot at home ice? Screw the wings!

BTW, Q didn't look all to UNhappy when Detroit tied it up either...

Obviously he was, because he pulled our goalie to try to win it with the score tied.

Yeah, great idea, trying to give the Hawks the man advantage, just like a PP. Oh wait, a man advantage is NO advantage for the Hawks.

Didn't Nashville already have the 4th seed locked up?

No. 2 pts for DET would've put them ahead. NSH would've needed 1 pt tonight to clinch 4th.

gotta say, if it was your desire to stay in 6th, but to also screw the Wings while you were at it, you played that to perfection!

Thanks, and good luck... I want 3 Central teams in the semis!

There would have been a lot of questions if he hadn't pulled the goalie. If his team thinks he's afraid of Nashville or if the press asks why they didn't pull the goalie it's a story. Chicago is so hopelessly inept with an extra man it was the only thing to do.

And as much as we want to make this about rankings, Nashville performed better as a hockey team this year than Phoenix. A crappy division and a guaranteed 3 seed doesn't change that. I'm ecstatic that we are likely going to play PHX (although we could still lose) instead of Nashville. My dream scenario is

Van vs. LA
STL vs. SJ
PHX vs. CHI
NSH vs. DET

Ideally this involves STL keeping the 1 seed but that would require EDM to win tonight. Of course, both VAN and EDM have conspiracies against them by the refs so should be an interesting game. I'm guessing a random zamboni wipes out both teams.

I only want 1 of them to go that far. Too bad it will be 2 after you play the Wings

The longer it remains in the game, the more I hate this fiasco. The players are treating it like a joke as well.

whats the alternative? A tie? Put the tie back in and hockey is only a pair of short shorts and styled hair away from soccer.

Ties have no business in sports. A skill competition deciding a winner is still 100000000x better than nobody winning.

Yes but I hate it when SO's extend all these "winning" streaks...IMO the NHL should have gone to the following point system when they went to the SO: 4 points regulation win, 3 points for s OT (4 on 4) win, 2 points for a SO win and 1 point for a OT or SO loss.

Just look across the league, NYR had 5 (FIVE) more ROW's than Pittsburgh but because the Pens are so great at the shootout they almost had more points (109-108) STL has 2 more ROW's than nucks but two LESS points. And on and on it goes...

Man I hope Crawford is done letting in softies like the Franzen goal, and I hope Kruger stops floating around in the defensive zone.
