Alright, since my last thread, trying to ascertain the strength of this draft relative to last years went so swimmingly, I thought I would ask a similar question. Let's assume that Yakupov goes #1 this year (I know, a stretch). Of the last 15 first overall picks, how would you rank them? I'm not talking about best overall season, but over the course of their careers. I know it's a little stacked against more recent draft picks, as they don't have a track record to base it on, so it will involve some speculation.
Crosby
Stamkos
Ovechkin
Tavares
Kovalchuk
Nash
Yakupov
Nugent Hopkins
Fleury
Lecavalier
Kane
Hall (--> I put him here because I haven't seen a lot of him, so basing largely on stats)
E. Johnson
Dipietro
Stefan
1) Crosby
2) Ovechkin
3) Kovalchuk
4) Stamkos at this point maybe better in a couple of years
5) Fleury
6) Nash
7) Kane
8) Tavares
9) Lecavalier
10) Nugent Hopkins could move up in a couple of years
11) Hall
12) Dipietro
The rest don't count not good enough to put in this group

The islanders would trade Dipietro for Stefan in a heartbeat.
Yakupov has no business on this list.
Hall and Hopkins haven't played enough to be judged with the others.

Johnson and Tavares are still developing.
Exactly, if you want to judge a guys potential that's fine but this question is kinda silly as we have nothing to judge it on other than potential and he might not even go 1st.
So why even ask the question when Yakupov isn't even eligible?
1. Crosby
2. Stamkos
3. Ovechkin
4. Kovalchuk
5. Fleury
6. Tavares
7. Lecavalier
8. Kane
9. Nash
10. Nugent Hopkins
11. E. Johnson
12. Hall
13. Stefan
14. Dipietro
1. Crosby - a SC puts him over AO
2. Ovechkin - has to be 2nd only a SC keeps him out of 1st
3. Kovalchuk- the guy is just a premier goal scorer
4. joe thorton- (the trhead is the alst 15 picks right?)
5. Fleury - under appreciated
6. Stamkos- career has been too short but could very well slide up into 2nd or 3rd
7. Nash- a change of scenery might actually boost him up
8. Lecavalier- he won't stay 8th but he has put up a career and the others are still building theirs
9. Kane- regular season ansd playoffs bumps him over the pack
10.Taveres- too soon to put him higher
11. Hall- lloks like he could be great inujuires are a concern
12. Nugent Hopkins- very good placing for the rookie he will climb
13. E. Johnson- injuries and the fact he is a Dman might keep him at this rank
Complete busts
14. Stefan
15. Dipietro[/QUOTE]

In all fairness to Dipietro, his was probably on his way to becoming an elite goalie until injuries derailed his career. If you want to rank them based on achievement, thats one thing, but when drafting you have no way to account for injuries.
Just for that I'd hardly want to throw Dipietro into the same group as Stefan, or even Erik Johnson.
way too many people putting Tavares over Kane...just dont see it yet..
If you put Tavares on a team like the Blackhawks you'd see what Tavares is about pretty quickly... as much as it pains me to say that as an Islanders fan
1. Ovechkin
2. Crosby
3. Stamkos
4. Kovalchuk
5. Tavares
6. Kane
7. Lecavalier
8. Nash
9. Fleury
10. Nugent-Hopkins
11. Hall
12. Johnson
13. Dipietro
14. Stefan
way too early to tell about Yakupov but if I include Thornton I'd put him at 5th place.
and I also feel bad for Stefan because his draft year was just terrible so put any out of the top 10 in 1st place besides Sedins and they would be huge busts too.
