Sucks to hear about Helm. Hopefully he is able to recover and resume his career. Skates to the wrist are no joke.

Maybe you could change your username to WeberSmashFace now.

Levity aside, it really boils me. I love Weber and to see him do that makes me lose a bit of respect for him. Roughing up Zetterberg is totally fine, but do so with more sense than that.

We might as well eliminate scrums around the goalie automatic ejections while we're at it. I could easily see lots of sprained knecks as a result of grabbing some dude's head from behind. Plus Bertuzzi was giving punches to Gaustad. Isn't the point of a punch to injure or am I way off base here?

I'm sending good wishes to Helm though. Sucks to get hurt.

And you wings fan should be well aware of Weber's "hulk" side. He beat the **** out of Lilja like 2 or 3 years ago after an icing call and concussed him.

All that was perfectly fine. They squared up and went at it. I wouldn't call this a hulk side, I'd call it a goon side.

Yep playoff hockey, that's an excuse to punch someone in the back of the head and slam there face into the boards after the game is over.

Also mentioning kronwall as a dirty player ha, ya hes left his feet on some hits but the vast majority are clean especially nowadays, Weber made a dirty move just get over it, stop trying to make it seem ok because a few Wings players have made a dirty play before.

Maybe, but emotions are gonna be really high at the very end of a playoff game. If he gets a game, so be it. But hopefully they'll watch all of the events right before that and do nothing.

Nobody's actions prior to that justify Weber grabbing a player's head and slamming it against the glass.

This. That was just plain malicious and dumb. Hard to believe Weber would do something that stupid when the game was essentially over.

You'd defend your player too. That's all I'm doing. It was very questionable no doubt. But only former players like Shanahan will know what it's really like to be in those sort of situations. All we can do on here is ***** and moan on the resulting suspension or lack thereof. But even though the act was dirty, Z has a helmet on, put his hand up to brace for impact, AND it's only plexiglass. It's not like it was bare face on concrete.

Weber got a 2 minute roughing penalty for his efforts.

I think that's plenty for this.

No suspension or fine necessary.

Pretty sure Babcock took the high ground and said that both teams are known for being disciplined so there shouldn't have been so many calls.

To be fair, Weber doesn't punch him at all. He whiffs and then the "smash happens" I also will defend Weber in this case.

Lots of bumping going on and then to get run into the boards with his head down and Z throwing the elbow to the back of his head/neck area. Weber retaliates with a whiffed punch and a slam of his head into the glass. No need for a suspension, I'd definitely have a talk with Weber about it, but I wouldn't suspend him for the issue.

And you're saying Weber is dirty because he did one thing to Z, yet Kronwall isn't even though he's left his feet multiple times?

For wings fans with short memories

No suspension on that ”hockey play”
So we're going back nearly 20 years to find a relevant play? The league is different nowadays.

Link to these multiple feet leaving hits. Note: It doesn't count if the skates leave the ice AFTER impact.

I'm just referring to his comment saying "sure his feet leave the ice on some hits." Just finding it funny that Wing's fans jump to protect Kronwall and Bertuzzi yet condemn Weber. Yet they call us homers for defending him. Right.

Funny that's the EXACT same thing we use to defend tootoo and he is still a thug around these parts. Deal with it.

I think it's interesting that the guy asking for a link apparently hasn't looked at his own picture. Case in point the hit on Voracek earlier this year was a feet leaver. The fact he wasn't fined or suspended when he injured a player on such a hit is blasphemy (end sarcasm). Funny that the wings would defend this yet a scrum where Z gets hit and doesn't get hurt deserves a 5 game ban.

What we all need to realize here is that Weber was indeed assessed a 2 min roughing penalty on that play. So punishment has already been dealt.

Anyways, some good quotes: http://www.nhl.com/ice/recap.htm?id=...navid=sb:recap

can we talk about the game? I missed most of the 2nd half of the game but it looks like the wings really dominated the shots on goal. were the wings controlling the play pretty well?

the reffing was atrocious today for both teams. one of the worst displays of reffing I have ever seen.

Can we save the Weber talk for the thread dedicated for the Weber talk?

This thread is getting infested with silly comments about the incident when it should be for the actual series.
