Harding sent to the hospital after a dirty play by Taffe...

UGH! 4.3 seconds left in the game and Taffe hits Harding in the back of the head. I hope he gets suspended.

Overall a chippy game with two of the Aeros players getting over 20 minutes of penalties...

And Koivu and Wallin combined for 7 points...

Hopefully they'll show that kind of skill in the NHL...

Whoa! Hopefully not with a stick...we all know how the AHL responds to that stuff. Did you see it? Link?

Josh better be alright or Taffey gots some 'splainin to do.

I hope Harding recovers enough to play again. Sounds like the type of cheap hit that could be career-ending.

Word is 3rd grade concussion. Pretty bad news. I guess we could've assumed that since he was out and they took him to the hospital in a neck brace. I guess the good news is there's not anything else reported yet (fracture, etc.).

Anyone know if Josh has had a serious concussion before? I hope not. He could be done if so.

Well, it's not like goalies need to play physical like the other 5 guys on the ice. Once he recovers, it's unlikely he'll get his bell rung again, unless someone else cheap shots him again - shame on Taffe

Big shame on Taffe...

Look at Mike Richter...he was a goaltender plagued with post-concussion symtoms...hopefully that won't happen to Harding.

I am really worried that Harding might never skate again Oh man...I'm really worried about that and about how he is feeling. I hope he can recover from this and isn't plagued by it...

UGH!

And for a organizational problem...Harding was our stud in goal...Are we going to trade or draft another one?

Yes, please show us a video link. This sound like an intentional cheap shot to the head, basically an attempt to injury. Now I'm a Hamilton Bulldogs season ticket holder and I saw what Alexander Perezhogin got 80+ games for. Granted, Perezhogin's was done with a stick, but if this league wants its decipline to be taken seriously at all I would hope Taffe receives about 30 games. Of course this opinion has been formed from reports I've read, I reserve the right to change my mind if I actually get to see it.

Harding was released from the hospital today so hopefully he's OK.

Kyle Kettles was recalled from Louisiana to take his place on the roster.

He's a story I found about the incident in the Pioneer Press. It pretty much says that same things as the Areo's team site did. But I figured some of you might want to see it...

The best thing to be taken out of this so far is:
Quote:
This is his first concussion, which is good. His spirits are good," Lynn said. We'll wait to see how he feels in a couple of days."
No history of concussions...doesn't mean it won't affect him though.

I find myself getting more mad about this as time goes on...

What a weak suspension! He should have gotten a minimum of 10 games IMO.

Very weak suspension. The next time they play UT it could be ugly.

Guy swings a stick, gets a FULL YEAR suspension. Guy throws an elbow to the back of a head gets four games. Is one that much more dangerous than the other?

Huge double-standard IMO.

IMO yes there is a significant difference. He didnt just swing a stick, he attacked a prostate player with a weapon.

I don't think there is as much as the AHL would like us to believe. Perez was ridden, hooked, held, cross checked and eventually swung at with a weapon. If refs weren't gonna call any of that, I'm not surprised at the outcome. I also think the suspension in this incident was close to right on.

I have not seen video of the Taffe/Harding incident, for there is most likely not a video available to the public. I have seen pictures and read many first hand accounts of it, by both fans and media and it all has been pretty consistent. Premeditated with intent to injure. A player should be responsible for their actions. AP was pushed to the brink and had a split second to decide...how long did Taffe have?

Until I see the video, I cannot say for sure. Although from the surface, the difference in suspensions suggests a complete lack of consistency. The AHL needs to get it's house in order IMO.

And because of Jeff's actions and this slap on the wrist suspension, all goalies, including Dave LeNeveau are targets. The next Houston/Utah game is gonna be a mess.

I always felt the 10 seconds of video before the actual stick swinging was very telling, and feel that Perezhogin got about half a season too much. They tried to send a message, but they need to be consistent with all suspensions. Yes, they clearly said the use of a stick as a weapon is completely unacceptable, but it was still his (over) reaction to a stick being swung at him first. And that's not a defense of him, only a defense of the serverity of his punishment. This could be debated forever, but from what I read about the Harding incident and the fact that it was a goalie, and from behind, and with 4 seconds left or whatever it was seems to say that this deserved 8-15 games IMO. If anything it reminds me of the Bertuzzi incident in style anyhow. Hit from behind and then all Bert's weight on the back of Moore's head causing all that damage. If Harding's mask had been forced off and his face would have been bloodied in addition to the concussion would that have made an actual suspension happen?

At least the next matchup of the Grizz/Aeros will be a hot ticket I guess.

I don't think so. The Aeros don't play again until the 16th or something, so they probably sent the guys back just to play.

I didn't see the play and I don't think those posting here on the boards saw it, but from Fiona Quick of MHJ who spoke with Taffe,

"Those who didn't see the play also didn't see Eric Reitz. Reitz is the same guy that bit Casey Hankinson in a fight last year. According to Taffe, Reitz checked him into the goalie and there was no intent to check the goalie or elbow him."

So did anyone on the board actually see the play?
