Calgary, familiar position

Just went and checked the standings, and realized that Calgary is the team with the highest points out of a playoff spot (dreaded 17th place).

Now if Dallas and/or Colorado win today, they will move down a couple spots, in the end the position is basically the same.

When will they do something drastic with their roster? Its basically been the same thing for the past 3 years.

Discuss.

They finished well ahead of Edmonton. It's all good.

If the difference between organizational success is picking 12th instead of 14th, then it really doesn't matter where the Flames pick, because there are bigger problems to deal with.

How about we let every team play 82 games before we start bashing the Flames for finishing 9th? Hey, we made a pretty good pick last season at 13th.

If Calgary had kept their 1st round pick two years ago, and had Brandon Gormley to go with Sven Bartschi, then I don't think anyone would be saying that it's such a dreadful position to be in. And if they can get a player half as good as Bartschi this year, they'll already be well on their way for a turnaround.

Maybe they should make less changes. Clearly changing a GM and a coach doesn't work, they should stick to the same guys like him:

Someone mentioned only 3 teams have had 90+ points every year since the lockout, Detroit, San Jose,...... and Calgary

meh TJ Brodie got the opportunity instead and he's pretty good, might end up being as good as Gormley, haven't seen Gormley yet so who knows.

more people picked the Flames to be a bottom 5 team than a playoff bubble team. We were laughed at when we argued we would be on the bubble.

Well someone has to be in this position. Is there a marked difference in the quality of NHL talent one can get in 17th over 15th or 11th?

trade iginla for some good young talent and i wouldn't be surprised if they make the playoffs. i know its blasphemy to criticize iginla on this board, but he does not buy into the coaches system at all

Don't make the same mistake as the Leafs did with Sundin. Get something for Iginla while you still can!!!

It would be tough to see Iginla in anything other than a Flames jersey (or maybe a Stars jersey ), but I think it is time to turn the page. Calgary has one of the oldest teams in the league.

There should be a lot more youth on the team next year. Hopefully they bring in a coach that isn't afraid to put the big names in the doghouse. Still not convinced that coach exists.

There's still quite a bit to look forward to next season if Feaster does do the right things. A possible new coach, Baertschi, Irving, maybe Aliu, Backlund if he stops being a puss, and Brodie. I hope Feaster doesn't burn that cap space on washed up unmotivated vets. I'd rip into some of the players like Jokinen but I know the response I can expect from Flames fans about how great of a defensive player is and how much he loves being here.

I'm expecting a big season from Iginla. After all, he is in a contract year.

It's only blasphemy to the die-hard Iginla lovers that exist on these boards and out there in the world that can't handle someone saying anything bad about Iginla, regardless of how true it really is. I wouldn't mind him being on the Flames if he at least put the effort in and wasn't scoring goals. The problem is that half of the time he's putting the minimum in and not producing any offense in addition to being a defensive liability. The Flames captain, who has been described as quiet by former coaches, is also a lazy player. Brilliant.

lol its actually kind of pointless for oiler fans to bash flames fans and for flames fans to bash oiler fans. And whats even worse is i know exactly how that conversation would go down.

I'd much rather our 2 franchises start hating on each other badly when we both get really good again and we can troll the league. But until then flames fans need to shut up and so do oiler fans. You both know where this is going to go.

I think the flames need to do their homework on the draft, theres always someone that is a sick player between 10-20, just got to find them. And Edmonton has the luxury of getting another piece to the puzzle at 2 or 3.

The Flames, with a healthy line-up, are the 10th oldest team in the leauge. A hell of an improvement in just one year.

Fair enough, but the core of players is still pretty old by comparison to the elite teams and players in the NHL.

Quite right, but all the problems won't be fixed in one season. Improvements in those areas will take some time, but changes are evident.

So are Flame fans going to pimp Aliu all summer long because he had a good 2 games lol?

JK, I've always liked Akim and I was hoping the Oilers would take a flyer on him.

No the Flames need a coach who is new to the nhl and doesn't have a set ideas about this team and what they need to do.

I think the Oilers need that too.
