That makes Carle much more expendable. If he's not willing to give us a discount, then I say let him walk, let one of the young guys play, and sign a free agent like Suter (unlikely, but best case scenario) or Brad Stuart (good player and wouldn't be as expensive as Suter). Since Bourdon, Gustafsson, and Manning have all come up and held their own, why not give them a shot? The Flyers need to get younger, and if they can allow one of their cheap prospects to start for the big club, that will free up cap space for Homer to work with.
