Just posted this in another thread. With the exception of AV and maybe Crawford, don't think you can give the job to a better candidate.

IMO... Nelson is a year too soon. I'd want him down there to develop guys more. There's an important secondary wave of players that we're going to need.

Sorry OP, just changed the title a little to be more accurate, hope you don't mind!

I've gone from "I don't mind Renney being the coach for the club" to "I can't wait for him to leave".

Some of his personnel decisions have been questionable, I do not think he's gotten the best out of this roster. His system is far too rigid and does not fit our players.

This is what I am thinking also but what if they sign Renney to a 1 yr deal then the team has a good season. We would lose Nelson.

I agree. Although I have zero interest in Crawford. There must be someone else better.

I got excited when i heard that. Nelson might be inexperienced at the NHL level but i like the idea of bringing in a coach familiar with the organization and a younger guy with fresh ideas. Also, i don't think that he would have been around much longer, i think that another team would probably scoop him up if we wait too long.
Renney is a nice guy but he was completely wrong for this team.

I would like it if the assistants stayed though. I like Kruger a lot and even Bucky and Smith have done decent jobs.

Couldn't we find someone else to develop those players?

The big club takes preference in this case, and with all the good Nelson has done down there, if he can do the same up here (even small things), we'd be better off.

I love what I've seen of Nelson so far.

I agree that it might be a year too early but he's gone to another team if we wait. That said, I won't count chickens before they hatch though. The new coach (if there is one) could be anyone.

Eric Francis said this so take it for what it is worth. Renney not back would be no surprise, Nelson I'm not that high on.

I've read that Kruger is going back to Europe next year. Is that still the case?

Too bad. He did a great job of bringing the kids along throughout the season. He had a league-worst defence, and the smallest line-up, yet we were competitive in most games. He treated the players with respect and didn't lose the room despite the losing. If they re-up Tambellini and can Renney, I'll have no faith left in this management team.

The coaches usually choose their assistants. Bucky was a plant, i dont think Renney chose him

I'm not a fan but I feel bad that Renney's going to be the fall guy. It's a shame that Tambellini still gets to hurr durr and muck up the Oilers (presumably) through 12/13.

What's the Barons roster like? Their playing style? Is Nelson a good fit for the Oilers?

Never seen an OKC game so some info would be much appreciated.

True that he didn't have a very good roster to work with but it definatly isn't the 2nd worst line up in the league.

I bet Renney knew he would be gone months ago.

No surprise here; it has been talked a lot on these boards, that we should fire Renney and have Nelson replace him.

I doubt he(Francis)has heard anything substantial.

I remember when Renney was hired as head coach, I said instead of recycling the same coaches, Edmonton should go with someone young and new.

Hopefully that happens this summer.

Agreed. They are just making Renney the scapegoat here imo. What is Renney supposed to do when you bring in guys like Belanger, Smyth, and being saddled with Horcoff and Whitney?
There's a whole bunch of crappy contracts here of supposed veteran leadership. They and the people resonsible for them being here are the prime reason the Oilers sucked this year.
