Panthers finish 3rd with a -24 goal differential and Habs finish 15th with a -14 differential. Not hating but has this ever happened before?

You're not a fan of the game if you wouldn't watch the series.

A division winner with a goal-differential of -24. Just when I thought I'd seen it all...

Congrats to the Panthers though. They were the best team in the division this season and thus are deserving champions.

Maybe Montreal should trade some of those sexy 4 goal wins for a better record in ugly 1 goal games

It's always ****ing been this way. When did you start watching the NHL? The league has been rewarding teams with a point after regulation since forever.

Only in today's NHL do shootouts exist. The Panthers didn't do well in shootouts, hence the majority of the "loser points."

If the Panthers beat the Devils, I will officially jump on the Panthers bandwagon. I have a soft spot for the, since Beezer and Mellanby played for them.

No offense to Jersey - I like how they came together this year. But I'll be cheering for the Panthers. The drought those fans have endured combined with the crap all these "3rd seed point total" haters are piling on them makes me want to see a deep Fla run. Good luck guys and enjoy the ride!

Dead last=3rd worst I guess? (Yes, last in the East though). He wasn't laughing at the Panthers he was just making light of the weird stat. The Habs were awful in 1 goal games and blew too many leads but won some lopsided games. Oh well, live and learn. But with your team just ending a league record 10 year playoff drought I wouldn't be so quick to mock another organization.

Over arguing with the few posters with manipulating stats or talking gimmick points.

Dont be so quick to come in here and try to justify montreal's season as that poster did.

Come in here with class and congratulate a team and a fan base.

After all, its your sport isnt it?

I'm not justifying it. I just find it a funny stat. There's a reason behind it though and I said why. I'm not saying "Montreal's plus-minus was better than Florida therefore we were just unlucky and they're not that good." You're reading into what I write. Let's talk about class. I was here to congratulate but thought I'd just mention that the Habs are not a laughing stock for one non-playoff year and I would expect a fan of a team who had 10 in a row to know better and sympathize instead of gleefully take shots from the top of the hill. And I see you're also falling back on that "our sport" accusation on the Habs cause the Habs fans have been known to claim to be the best or have been named by others as the best. We know, we get it. We're arrogant lol.

Thanks and congrats to your team. Yes the "Southleast" gets ripped but even my Habs would've finished 3rd or 4th if in that division so it doesn't matter to me that it might be weaker. The Panthers have had a great turnaround andthe best may be yet to come. If they can assess who to keep as a core from this current group and funnel in the cheaper, young prospects when the time is right (because let's admit it, salary is an issue for a team losing money like Florida), they may be on their way to something. Everyone needs that goalie and Markstrom's the key to it all. If he can get it together, the Panthers can be up in the conference's top 5 overall teams someday (I don't mean seeding of course, hehe).

Panthers had over 300 man games lost this year. Making the playoffs, let alone the division title (granted, it IS the Southeast), was an uphill battle all season long.

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the Panthers.

That being said, I was mildly bitter that they made it into the playoffs because it meant that the Leafs are the only team post-lockout to not have made it to the playoffs yet.

That's OK. I'm glad Panthers fans have something to cheer about.

I'll be hoping for the Panthers to go deep into the playoffs.
