I sure as heck hope not. When somebody threw a rat after Sammy's goal, I was fully expecting some sort of penalty. It never came though. I don't know if this will be strictly enforced in the playoffs or not.

Oh no! I remember clearly why, because only the Panthers would bring a guy like Worrell who couldn't skate forward much less backwards to slash our hot goalie Kidd right down the middle. We then had to give up our core assets like Dvorak to pick up vernon . At that time the Bure line was smoking hot. but it all felt apart after that incident , as we lost alot of depth on that trade n every team was just focusing on our 1 line.

We only traded Dvorak for Vernon and a pick. I think it was the injury to Kidd that took a lot out of the team, as they were on a roll before he got injured.

Hey guys just stopping by wishing you good luck!

I know it's nice for you guys to have an ESPN writer to pick the Panthers to win... but definitely take it with a grain of salt when it's coming from Burnside. The guy is a huge Ranger fan and constantly writes nasty articles about the Devils and someone did the research and has found out that the Devils have made the playoffs 20 out of the last 22 seasons... and in the past 9 or so years, Burnside picked the Devils to MISS the playoffs eight times. The guy is an arrogant pompous balloon tie. (try to picture what I'm saying lol).

He's always had it out for the Panthers too.... I'm not a fan of his, at all.

Even his prediction for the series... saying it should be a cakewalk for the Devils... sooo... Panthers in 7. What the hell kind of journalism is that? Anyway... this is going to be a very hardfought series with some great overtime games and drama. ... very much looking forward to it. Good luck!

No worries, if we listend to predictions we'd be in 15th and Bergy would have 7 goals.

Interesting table stolen from main board:

We know the regular season records are wiped clean at playoff time, but I thought it would be interesting to look at some regular season numbers as a guide for the playoffs.

There is one major difference between playoff and regular season hockey. In the playoffs, overtime is played under the same rules as the rest of the game, and there is no shootout. So I've cut off all team records after 60 minutes, giving teams an "OT" for a game that went to overtime and counting it as half a win.

Similarly, there are only playoff teams in the playoffs (obviously). So I've cut out all games against non-playoff teams.

The remaining standings may give us an idea about which teams are best equipped for the playoffs.

Eastern Conference
Team GP W L OT GF GA Win% GF/GA
New York Rangers 44 22 15 7 117 101 0.580 1.16
Boston Bruins 40 16 14 10 118 97 0.525 1.22
Florida Panthers 40 13 19 8 82 114 0.425 0.72
Pittsburgh Penguins 43 19 15 9 127 114 0.547 1.11
Philadelphia Flyers 45 18 18 9 127 127 0.500 1.00
New Jersey Devils 43 13 17 13 101 112 0.453 0.90
Washington Capitals 41 17 17 7 112 113 0.500 0.99
Ottawa Senators 39 12 19 8 113 121 0.410 0.93
Total 335 130 134 71 897 899 0.494 1.00

all those tense one-goal victories may have taken a couple of years off of my life but they should have us well prepared for the playoffs.

No need to worry about Elias. Svehla is not here to pass to him any more.

you know having all this time off before the game starts tomorrow i came to think about this season and this series and here are my thoughts:

Im proud. Im proud of being a panthers fan for the first time in a long time. Making the playoffs and winning our division is a huge step in the right direction for this club and all the experts keep failing to realize that this team has the number 1 prospect pool in the nhl. It only gets better from here. This is the beginning of greatness.

Regarding the upcoming series against the devils. Im not scared, or nervous or intimidated by the devils or their fans. I am excited and i have no expectations. Any success from here on out just adds to my excitement and gratitude of what this team has accomplished and where it is headed.

It is with some surprise that on the main boards devils fans are wondering why their is not huge rivalry or hate/trash talk between our fans and their arrogant ones.

And then i realized why.

We already won. We could lose this series as far i am concerned and the season would still be a sparkling success. Everyone believes the devils will win. Analysts, fans, devils players. They might be right. But if the devils players and fans go into this series thinking that and the panthers go in with the attitude i expressed above. Anything can happen. We are the loose team. We are the team with no expectations. And the result of this series might just surprise a few people.

so when i start watching tomorrow night i wont have the same nervous, anxious feeling i have during the regular season. I anticipate being rather non-chalant in fact. There is nothing this team could not do or fans to say that would make me believe otherwise that this season has been a success and the future is not bright.

Im so grateful that for the first time in my life i will be getting ready to go to my first ever Panther playoff game in 72 hours. For the first time ever, i didnt have to watch the preds fans, pens fans, and canucks fan last night and think to myself what if feels like to root for my team in the playoffs. This year i wont have that feeling.

Who knows we may just surprise some people.

Lets Go Panthers!

i said something similar to my wife last night. it's odd to be watching the playoffs start and actually be able to look forward to watching MY team play. it's not a novel sensation as it is for you since i was there in '96 and watched from the northeast in 97 and 2000. (also grew up as a rangers fan, though i completely switched allegiances in 94) it has been a long time, though.

i feel somewhat differently about the series, tho. i watched the regular season games with detachment. the playoffs are another story (i think they will be at least). now, you're in the dance and everyone's watching. the talking heads on every network will be analyzing and dissecting our games. if we don't put a good foot forward (as happened to ATL), i fear we may take a step backward overall in terms of solidifying a playoff identity and playoff expectations. if we compete hard, leave it all on the ice and lose, then i'd feel ok regardless. i don't want to see an uninvolved team (from nerves or whatever) get stomped on in front of a national audience. in that sense, i'm a little more anxious heading into game 1.
