Were not cup contenders until we can:

1. Grab at least one or two big name out of FA
2. Make the playoffs for at least a few years in a row
3. Go deep in the playoffs
4. Have a solid defense

I've noticed that NHL Live on NHL Network has been spotlighting a team a day and what their off season plans will be. They also have the GM of that team talk via phone to them. Have they already done the Wild or have they yet to do them? They did the Coyotes yesterday and today they did the Blues. I'm listening to Blues' GM Doug Armstrong talk right now.

I'm nearly 100% positive they just started last night with the WCF and ECF finalsts NYR and PHX and are now working backwards, so they have not gotten to the Wild yet.

If the Crosby 10y-$9M annually is to go through, how in the blue hell is Parise worth $10M?

Seriously I don't know what it is about this board but you all are wan*ing way too much over Parise.

A $10MM AAV for Parise would almost certainly be a "short term" contract, meaning 5 years or less with no cheat years. A 10x9MM contract to Crosby would pay him $9MM when he's 35. While Crosby could likely continue producing into his mid-thirties, he sure as hell won't be producing $9MM worth. Furthermore, Crosby takes a discount to keep his team more competitive vis a vis the salary cap and probably makes 3-4 times more via endorsements than he does from actual salary.
