Congrats to the Canucks for sure, but come on, an "average" season?
Is 109 points now considered an average season in Vancouver?
Not average, more like disappointing. The team didn't play very well for many long stretches. Without excellent play from the goalies we wouldn't be close to 1st in the league.
Only 6 points behind last year's team, but last year's team performed much, much better and truly had a dominating season. Not so much this time.

average is a bad choice of words. they did not put nearly as much effort into this season as they did last season. the games were pretty much all boring besides the big ones against chicago, detroit and that one against boston.
this will end in two ways: either the canucks will find the next gear and be rested from slacking during the regular and make a good run or they will be caught off guard and be out in the first or second round.
i feel uneasy about the kings. a tight checking team that may be able to shut down the sedins. i would have preferred the sharks their defensive game is lacking and they would get picked apart by our top lines.
regardless 2 straight PT winning seasons are greatly appreciated.

We won a ton of games we frankly had no business winning, especially in January. It became a running joke on TSN about our "ugly" wins. When people say average, they are more referring to how despite 109, we didn't really play that great. I mean look at the difference in points alone for the Sedins and Kesler; a combined 60+ lose in production.
This is what happens when you stay positive, stick with the process, and play whistle to whistle hockey. We're a great team, it's an honour to watch this group do their thing.
Congrats to us on our accomplishment and hopefully we'll have a great playoff run starting with a difficult LA team.
When you play in a terrible division, it's not that hard to win the President's Trophy but still it's tough to win it twice in a row...but none of the teams besides Vancouver even made the playoffs in that division.
In fact that's the only division in hockey with only one representative.
True test is in the playoffs, and I believe that they can do it this year (make it to the Finals again), Bieksa has really improved and Edler just looks amazing out there, they barely missed Ehrhoff with the injury free play of Salo.
Lol, NHL.com has nothing on the main page about it. But they've sure got an article about the Sharks nabbing that coveted 7th seed.
I used to be one of those people that was rattled by NHL.com coverage of the Canucks, but I think in reality I don't think many Canadians use NHL.com as their primary source for their coverage...
For me it's
Canucks.com
then TSN
then HF
Sportsnet and NHL.com aren't on my radar at all, I would think this is probably the same order or similar for many Canadians.
Their traffic is probably mainly casual American fans so they're going to cater to them and so they should.

lol, two years in a row the only one from the nw to make the playoffs, it truly is an awful division
