Penguins did it for five years. Fluery, Whitney, malkin, Crosby, staal. All top 5. As good as the oilers look, the penguins got lucky on their timing and took two generational guys.
What happened to deslaurier? Bring him back, he was actually pretty good.
He's in Anaheim.
And if I was a Flames fan I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for something to happen after their ELCs. Go check out how much cap space they'll have in the coming years. Go check it out!/jacktorrance
So Edmonton is probable to get the 2nd pick and would be able to draft Grigorenko. Eberle, Hall, RNH, Grigorenko... Shouldn't there be a rule against getting top picks more than 3 yrs in a row? I'm not an EDM hater or something. And I honestly expected them to do better this season. I was just thinking if that is a fair situation by now.
Not to be too picky, but Eberle was taken 22nd in his draft year. They've only had 2 top picks in a row, although Gagner was 6th and Paajarvi was 10th.
BPA, BPA, BPA. Drafting for need in the top-5 gets you Thomas Hickey.
If you're stacked at a position, you can find a way to trade from that excess to better balance your team.
Murray is a fantastic prospect and many are citing 2-6 as being nearly even as far as potential goes. Every team has a shot at a great player. I hope Edmonton picks Murray seeing Montreal is better suited to grab Grigorenko. Galchenyuk is awesome though.
If Grigorenko is the BPA #2 the Oilers take him, simple as that.
The Oilers might need a defenseman but it's just as important to have depth at centre. A defenseman is likely 2+ years away from making the NHL anyways, how does that help them?
i see some high end poker playing out at the top of this draft. The Habs and Leafs desperately need elite talent at Center. Will Burke try to acquire the Oil's pick? what will Columbus do? I think if the Oil go with Grigorenko the habs will absolutely draft Galchenyuk

I can just see management thinking Murray is BPA. And between the two of them, Murray is likely more NHL ready than Grigorenko is anyway (not that that really matters).

Actually, no.
2011: Adam Larsson, 4th Overall. ----> Straight to the NHL.
2009: Victor Hedman, 2nd Overall. ----> Straight to the NHL.
2008: Drew Doughty, 2nd Overall. ----> Straight to the NHL.
Edmonton faithful believes in Tambi/Lowe's ability to make the best decisions

Ebs was taken 22nd overall so really it's only been two years in a row Let's hope that the third time at the lottery will pay off with a ticket to the playoffs next season.
I would love it we did take Grigorenko, but I feel like the Oilers are going to take a Dman instead
I have to think that they'll take Murray, it just makes so much sense.
Grigs makes just as much sense as we need to replace Gagner with a big, skilled forward. No more smurfs on our top 6 plz; We cannot win with a team full of scrubs
Plus defenceman are always riskier than forwards..... better safe than sorry (plus we can trade Grigs for a proven D-men, or even trade down our draft pick, if the deal is for a legit top pairing D)

Try enduring these last three seasons as an Oiler fan and then say it isn't fair. Those three picks were earned out of pure agony, well deserved.
they should take Dumba or Murray
If they take Grigorenko then they deserve the next 3 years of failure in front of them.
not that Grigs will be a bust, just that the Oil need to balance out their lineup
