I really wanted to not be a homer since there is simply no chance in hell Detroit beats the Pens if they are healthy..........but i still cant pick the Pens..........screw it.
I am well aware that i have probably ruined my bracket since i am a homer, but i cant help it.

Blech. I feel dirty.
Just to clarify - do we still get the 2 point bonus if we pick the wrong winner but get the number of games right?
Man, looking at it this way, it's really a shame I don't think the Wings can play their best for an extended period of time. There's really nobody in the West that's any good at all besides Vancouver.
St Louis can't score and takes too many penalties, and that will make it pretty much impossible for them to win against Vancouver in a shooter's series.
Phoenix is still mediocre old Phoenix. If they couldn't go anywhere with this team when they had Bryzgalov, they're not going anywhere with Mike Smith.
Chicago has no goalie. Their forwards and top D pair can buy them one round but the Nucks will score 6 a game on these guys.
Nashville is a system team and wouldn't have enough offense to hold up in a series against the Nucks either. I think the Hawks would beat them but the way I have it going, they lose to the Blues in the second round. They play the same game but the Blues play it better.
I think the Kings and Sharks are relatively lousy (though the Wings would still inexplicably lose to the Sharks, for absolutely no good reason). Nuff said there.
And sadly, I think the Wings spend too much time stuck in neutral, mail it in too often on the road, and have too many problems on the PP and PK to win a playoff series against any halfway decent team. But I'll happily accept defeat if they prove me wrong.
The East looks a lot stronger. The Rangers, Bruins, Penguins and Flyers are all better than the 2nd best West team right now. Granted, the bottom half of the East looks like absolute crap. But still, the top half is very strong.

Its really not that hard to imagine the Wings finding away into the finals.
But you can say that about a lot of teams.
I Chi, Det, SJ and Vancouver advancing in rd 1 and Detroit facing Chicago in Rd 2. I have Chicago winning, but if Toews isn't back, I don't see Chicago winning.

Well that was my point, in a way - that I could sorta see any team making it to the finals from the West because the West is pretty mediocre. IMO the Nucks are about 3 to 1 favorites to get to the finals but if someone were to knock them off, it would be a free for all.
I think the Wings could actually win a series against the Nucks, and probably match up against them better than any other Western team. I'm not sure I'd pick them to win such a series, but I think they'd have a good chance.

Lot of bias here, I'll admit. Still, other than my obvious favoritism towards the Wings (whom, let's be honest with, I don't really have a ton of faith in after the way things have gone recently... but they're my team, so I'm standing by them anyway), I could see it ultimately shaking down this way. I think St. Louis is vastly overrated and due for a fall (they have NO top 6 whatsoever; they're as much, if not more, of a system team than Nashville), and I think Philly hates Pittsburgh enough to give them a very good run for their money, and possibly knock them out (Flyers pretty much dominated the season series, btw, so there's also that; I know that kind of stuff usually doesn't mean anything, but as we've seen with the Wings and Sharks, sometimes it does). I don't think the Rangers are really as good as their record indicates, but I do think Lundqvist will get hot, and carry that team far.
...and as far as the Wings are concerned, I think they are definitely talented enough to hang with, and beat, any team in this league. The problem is that more often than not, they look so average and pedestrian with they handle themselves, particularly on the road. Too many passengers on this team that act like they just don't care anymore. If they play like we know they can (IE back in January-early February), they can beat anyone. But if they slog through the playoffs like the tired, worn out, disinterested bunch they've been for the past two months since, it'll be short series no matter who they play.
...and finally, I'll just say this; if the Wings don't win, my money is on Vancouver. I don't see anyone in the East stopping them this time.
