spfan's 2012 NHL Mock Draft

1.CBJ - RW Nail Yakupov
Easily the BPA and will revive their franchise.

2.EDM - D Ryan Murray
It's between Murray,Grigorenko and Dumba, but i think they'll take the safest pick and upgrades their defense finally after solidifying their offense.

3.MTL - C Mikhail Grigorenko
Exactly what they need. Superstar forward with size to boot.

4.NYI - D Matt Dumba
Like Edmonton, they have drafted forwards for a while now and finally draft a d-man.

5.TOR - C Alex Galchenyuk
They get their #1 center. See what happens when you don't trade your high 1st rounders away?

6.AHM - D Jacob Trouba
Need on defense and good value here. They'll be back on track in no time.

7.MIN - D Griffin Reinhart
Filling a need and getting good value here too. Brodin and Reinhart will look good.

8.CAR - LW Filip Forsberg
Staal and Skinner struggled this year and so they bring in some great help.

9.WPG - D Cody Ceci
Set with their forwards and now they add some defensive help.

10.TBL - D Morgan Rielly
Will be a great pairing with Hedman.

11.WSH(from COL) - C Radek Faksa
Another good piece added to a stacked team.

12.BUF - C Brendan Gaunce
Nice depth and fills a need.

13.DAL - RW Sebastian Collberg
Good value to a team lacking big time in the prospect pool, especially at forward.

14.CGY - D Olli Maatta
A very safe pick that will get some pressure off of Bouwmeester finally.

I don't think the Jets will take a D (I'd swap Ceci with Faksa) but other than that I could see the draft playing out close to this.

Forsberg would be a steal for the Canes at 8.

I don't see the Isles passing up Galchenyuk

Maatta at 14 is a HUGE reach, and I am high on him.

I think the Jets will look to improve their forward core and take Faksa or Collberg.

I see big problems with the Jets defense and no problems with their offense

Kane-Burmistrov-Little
Ladd-Scheifele-Wheeler

That's going to be very good, but their defense...Bogosian is a good 2-way d-man, but then they have 2 offensive d-men in Enstrom and Byfuglien. They need another d-men who brings a strong defensive game too like Murray,Dumba,Trouba,Reinhart,Ceci and not someone like Rielly though.

Faksa would become their 3rd line center if they drafted him, good depth, but a high-end d-men gives better value and fills a much bigger need.

How is Maatta a huge reach at 14? That is the average range of him.

He's a very safe pick, with good size, pretty good puck mover and good defensive smarts.

He's great and all, but they've avoided defense far too long. Passing up Dougie Hamilton last year for example.

Moulson,Tavares,PA,Niederreiter,Strome,Grabner,Okp oso,Nielson and Bailey. That is one young and good offense especially in a few years. Their defense is lacking big time and with the goaltending they have it would benefit them too(Nabokov,Montoya,DiPietro etc.)

Also, i wouln't say Galchenyuk is the BPA. Dumba is ranked higher than him on most lists.
