Ted Black : Ruff and Regier will be back

http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/sa...icle805892.ece

Quote:
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Buffalo Sabres president Ted Black says the team is already looking ahead on how to rebound from this year's disappointing finish. And he adds those plans include moving forward with both general manager Darcy Regier and coach Lindy Ruff.

As difficult as it was on the franchise to miss the playoffs, Black told The Associated Press by phone that there's "no time to wallow in misery." He says the team will continue the aggressive approach in adding players it established last offseason, its first under new owner Terry Pegula.

Black cleared up any questions regarding Regier and Ruff's futures by saying they will be back. Both have been criticized in the media this past week after the Sabres, and their high-priced payroll, finished ninth in the Eastern Conference standings.
Triple points for Uncle Teddy giving this to the AP first.

But commence raging from you folks that wanted housecleaning.

He hasn't shown to be the type to say one thing and have something entirely different come to fruition. He shoots it straight. I guess status quo!

I hope about 1800 more people have this attitude so I can move up the season ticket list.

Seems like the Sabres have been trying to prove people wrong since Briere/Drury rather than win.

So strange Pegula feels this way.

Just confirms what we already knew.

The question rolling forward now becomes: "Just exactly what has to happen for one or both of the Dynamic Duo to be fired?"

What if we miss the playoffs the next 10 years?

What if Darcy is discovered to be running a human slavery/drug trafficking ring?

What if Lindy dies of a heart attack on the golf course? Would we have a new coach then? Or would Terry have a wax replica of Lindy constructed and placed behind the bench at all games, accurately attired in a distasteful assortment of Lindy's usual mis-matching cheap suits, shirts, and ties?

Is there ANY scenario in which one or both of these guys is/are fired?

Coaches are hired to be fired, clearly this is the exception of the rule..

Lindy is a great coach but that doesnt mean he cannot be fired.

I guarantee that Pegula and Black are not evaluating Ruff and Regier except during the time that they've been in charge.

Fans are evaluating them from the start.

That's the disconnect.

My guess is that they will go if next season is also a failure (defined as failing to win a playoff round).

Pegula is showing patience with them, but I doubt it lasts longer than that.

I agree with you regarding Pegula's and Black's position on this.

I have said this in other posts in the past, but we are going to have to endure an "education period" in which Pegula and Black come to realize they need to start over with the GM/coach.

The only question is how long is it going to take for them to get there. See my previous post above.

I do not share your optimism regarding a 1 year leash, but I hope you are right.

I doubt either has a lot of breathing room at this point. Should the season start poorly, changes may happen.

Not sure what you would base that on.

We have plenty of evidence to the contrary.

nope... they'll have nearly 2 more full seasons

Cool, my expectations for next year are already lowered accordingly.

Total joke.

Maybe Pegula and Black should realize the team had 89 ****ing points and missed the playoffs, and was an utter embarrassment until late January. Is that good enough for a max-spending team? I guess if Pegs wants to throw his money down the drain for poor results, then by all means...

I'm sure a 3 year plan requires some sort of progress rather than a sudden spike upwards in the end of year 3. If there's no evidence of that there will be action.

If they are sticking with the Dynamic Duo, there better be a lot of important player movement this off season.

If next season starts with things "as is" with a few changes (Boyes, Hecht gone) and some Ville Leino type brought in as a free agent...well...let's hope the Bills are a lot better.
