29 teams fans agreeing, and a large majority of penguins fans throwing toys out of the pram when they get called on it.
Then you have comments such as "embrace the hate" ect.
I feel bad for genuine penguins fans, because they are down to earth people who accepts that sometimes things go their way in the NHL, and they don't offer some ******** excuses. They just get on with it. It's the rest of the bandwagon fanbase that people have problems with
I do agree that things have been going the Penguins way for a while, but Torts' rant was off base.
He called out Malkin and Crosby who weren't involved. He perpetuated the belief that Milbury's sexist comments were acceptable in a time that the NHL has a genuine movement (youcanplay) against things of that nature, and did so in his typical manner.
The Orpik situation was unfortunate, but to suggest that he did it on purpose/should be suspended for it? Ridiculous.
Sounds like a typical crybaby 12 year old on the internet.
It actually sounds like every single Penguins writer these days who take any criticism of the Pens, Malkin, Crosby or Lemieux personally and writes a sob story editorial about it all.
-A player wasn't fined for a hit that looked bad, but was debatable in weather it was truly intentional
-An analyst apologized for making light of concussions and mocking the team
-A coach goes on an unwarranted tirade and is fined.
And the Pens are somehow protected? I don't get why the league would need to protect or "favor" the Penguins. It wouldn't help them financially or otherwise. It literally makes 0 sense for the league to give them preferential treatment. Can anyone give me a good reason WHY the league would do that?
Is this a joke? Have you never heard of TV ratings?
Which team does NBC want on TV more than PIT? Answer there is no team NBC would rather have on TV so there is significant incentive to the NHL to see PIT go far in the playoffs because it equals higher ratings which = more $$.

Not saying this is the case, but if one was looking for a reason why protecting the Penguins would benefit the league, look no further than Crosby. I think it would certainly be a benefit for the league's posterboy and best player to win a lot. It would appeal to new fans who like to hop on bandwagons, much like the NBA did with Jordan in the 90s and somewhat like the MLB did with Ken Griffey Jr. back in the 90s. I am from Philly and I'll tell you right now I had a Jordan and a Griffey jersey.
Marketing and branding can do wonders for a league.
I seem to remember the Lemieux letter, and the response from the NHL was the same response as Lemieux's was when Matt Cooke ended Marc Savards career. Chirping crickets.
One of the better more true articles written in a long time. I am glad someone actually had the balls to write what all the fans have known/thought for a few years now. Props to Brooks

What the **** is this nonsense? So in your book, anyone who disagrees or tries to refute the point is not a genuine fan? While those that just hold their hands up and say "yep, we suck" are the true fans? What a bunch of ********.
Tell me, what do you say when people say the flyers are a classless organization who load teams with bullies and constantly mask dirty play with codewords like "tough" and "old time hockey"? Do you just go ahead and say "Yeah, thats my team"? Im guessing you have something to say about that too.
For the record, I dont agree with the fine at all, but what exactly can we do about it other than say its wrong? I also thought the hit was not even close to intentional and Torts is a big whining jackass. But what's new about a lack of credibility? Im guessing some of the people in this thread probably think the 09 cup should be taken back from us.
And for the most part its Wings, Rangers, Capitals, and Flyers fans that love these threads because it just gives them a chance to pat each others backs about how much the Penguins have ruined the league. But now that I know defending your team is a no no for a true fan, I will go ahead and just pick a new team
I really hope this thread doesn't get closed because some people are being jackasses, I have wanted to talk about this for a while with different fanbases but I knew starting a thread would either make me look like a Flyers-homer dick or the thread would get derailed with Pens hate.

Ah, so everyone loves the Pens! Shall we say they are "America's Team?" Move over Cowboys!

You honestly cannot see a single reason for the pens to get prefferential treatment?
Crosby is the most marketable player in the entire league. He has star status, and is a recognisable face outside of hockey regulars. A succesfull Crosby = more marketting.
I'm 100% in agreement on this. But I don't think it's just because the Penguins are the Penguins, Mario or anything else. I believe it's because the NHL needs more publicity and needs it's "jordan, bird, Manning, Brady, Jeter" type heros.
The Penguins are not the organization the NHL wants right now. It's the organization the NHL needs.

Again, I am being hypothetical.
Sure, maybe if the Penguins were awful. But the Penguins don't need any help to be one of the best teams in the league. They also have Malkin, Staal, Letang, Neal and Fleury, as well as a good coach and an owner who is willing to spend money. They have enough to win on their own, the league doesn't need to do anything.
If I was the NHL, I wouldn't even worry about the team with the best player. You know the fans of that team will come and watch him regardless. If I was going to favor a team, it would be small market/southern teams that need success to stay afloat.

A topic about the Pens can never be a civilized discussion.
Even if it starts out that way, Pens fans come in guns blazing.
