I love it when Pens fans think an isolated game or two shows that there is no bias. In any good showing of preferential treatment, the league at least has to try and make it not that obvious at times. The NHL has really failed pretty badly, overall, even if they do try.
Lols. If you're gonna go to bat with something as stupid as a conspiracy theory regarding preferential treatment, at least go all the way with it. Don't bring this weak crap to the boards, it's just sad.
The proper response to that post, if I'm you, is simply "one game doesn't prove anything, show me a trend and then we can talk." Don't try and suggest that the League is purposely trying to show not-preferential treatment in order to hide their preferential treatment. That's just weak as it gets.
If it ends up in Sports Illustrated and ESPN, for example, I consider that national media attention, especially since most of the major sports (MLB, NFL, NBA) trump hockey news. I didn't see Tort's rant on ESPN. Anyway... moving on.
I would say that most Pens fans say he deserved it. There are a few who I respect who can admit that there is a bias for the Pens who I'm sure don't think he really deserved it.
Bullcrap. I don't know anyone here who gives a flip one way or the the other about whether Torts got fined or not. I thought his rant was hilarious.

You're missing the point. It's 2012. NATIONAL MEDIA doesn't matter anymore. I can find Torts' rant on blueshirtrangersrulelols.com just as easily as I can find Lemieux's rant on ESPN.com.

Then why is there a group trying to justify the fine? Not just here, but in the original thread as well? I guess those people just don't count.

There's been Boston fans, Devils fans, Islanders fans, Sens fans, etc. all chiming in at some point or another and agreeing with the fact that the league gives your team things on a silver platter. The Pens get preferential treatment. The sooner their fans can admit it, the sooner we can move on and have rational discussions.
that's why I said MOSTLY. I believe the discussion would actually be more rational if fans like yourself would stop putting the lack of success of their respective teams on the back of "the League/Gary is favoring the Pens" BS. take a chill pill and relax. it gets really old and ridiculous when entitled bitter fans like yourself are you using the same lines over and over and over again.
Flyers fans thought exactly the same, then they made it all the way to the SCF "against the establishment" apparently, where they lost to a team with a goalie that supported an under .900 sv%. of course the season after it was all of the same... so which way is it?
Renney questioned the integrity of the league, Torts used a cuss word.
********. He implied that the Pens get preferential treatment and gave a veiled threat in "I wonder what would happen if we did the same to those two whining stars over there".
Then why is there a group trying to justify the fine? Not just here, but in the original thread as well? I guess those people just don't count.
I thought his rant was hilarious as well. Maybe if he was fined $10,000,000, I would care that he was fined and defend him. But he said something stupid, and the nature of the League is that he's going to get fined. It's oh so sad that he was fined what proportionately to him equates to the rest of us as the amount our cable bill is every month. Boo hoo, poor poor Tortorella.
The fine was warranted, there is no little conspiracy going on. Get over it and move on.
So why didn't Marios "I'm taking my team and leaving" boo-hoo tirade warrant the same if not more. It's not like a small rant that Torts did. Mario went to the press with it.
THATS where the double standard lies.
Because this is how politics work. This was more about Pennsylvania government living up to its promise to Mario more than anything. Mario had been fighting for a new arena since he became owner of the team but nothing ever came of it. Do not forget that the Pittsburgh Pirates pulled the same **** in 2000 in order to get their new ballpark. Given the state of politics at the time, and that the governor of PA was from Philly, these measures had to be taken. To sit here and blame Mario for being a baby pulling these tactics is idiotic, as he wasnt the first to do it to get a new, won't be the last, and realize this is a common tactic used by sports teams to get new arenas in their area.

My question to you is if you really do believe the Pens get preferential treatment by the league then why are you even watching the NHL? They have a great business model then.....helping the Pens win AND getting others to spend money on a fixed sport.
Then why is there a group trying to justify the fine? Not just here, but in the original thread as well? I guess those people just don't count.
When I say "here" I mean Pittsburgh, not the silliness that pervades these boards. Torts rant "here" was treated as an amusement, a little pre-playoff gamesmanship. As to the fine? A little harsh, but whatever.
There is no conspiracy to promote the Penguins, or any other team for that matter. In fact, the very idea is ludicrous on many levels. To suggest that any of the other governors would be for this is a big stretch. A majority in support would be unobtainable. Never mind the fraud, antitrust and god know what other charges any person caught up in such a thing would face. For what? Local Pittsburgh TV ratings? Like I said, ludicrous. It's one thing for HF board members to promote such, but veteran NHL coaches? The fine was appropriate.
********. He implied that the Pens get preferential treatment and gave a veiled threat in "I wonder what would happen if we did the same to those two whining stars over there".
Nope, it's all because of a cuss word.
I don't get why it's so hard for people to understand lol. You can't imply that about any team. Wasn't there a coach just fined for saying the league wanted LA in the playoffs? I hate the Penguins and I have to stick up for them on this.

What did he say that was "stupid" and how was the fine "warranted"?
It certainly wasn't warranted due to the cursing. We can get that out of the way.
So what was actually warranted? Coaches question bad calls all the time and don't get fined. Torts didn't rip the refs. He didn't rip the league. He ripped a team and players. Why wasn't Crosby fined for opening his mouth and (!!!) calling Callahan a whiner? If we are going to go the route of protecting teams from big meanies, at least.
