Outside of playing for a franchise that is more stable(for now), what did Michalek really gain?
He signed with ****tsburgh for 1 year less and 6 million less what the Coyotes offered him.
While the Coyotes have not yet made it out of the 1st round, neither has the Z man in his 1st 2 seasons with the Pens. Despite playing with the likes of Malkin, Crosby, LeTang, this Penguins team is on the decline in terms of playoff performance since there last cup win.
More and more Pens fans are saying now that Z has become a really useless player this season compared to what he has done in the past.
I like Z as much as the next guy, but I can tell you that Stone is going to be better...and he's younger and cheaper.
Let's not sell Z short here. He was one of our top dmen and still likely would be if he were still here. Him and Klesla would be amazing together. The only thing Stone has on Z right now is size and shot, and if he does become better he certainly wouldn't be any cheaper.

I wouldn't have paid Z the type of money he's making in Pittsburgh. I think it's the same for players like Z and Luke Schenn and other Dmen who are good defenders but never crack the 30pt barrier.
I don't think you can spend that type of money on a defender unless he's going to put up close to 40pts. I'm impressed with Stone enough that I think next season if he can get a shot he can put up 25pts, playing solid D. Now granted, he's not going to block shots as well as Z did, but I believe he's got a better shot from the point and a quicker outlet pass. But that is just my opinion.
Nice job by the Kings though I wouldn't call it a real upset seeing that both LA and Van were expected to face each other in the conference final as a 1 vs 2 seed.
Still, this series win is big for a team seemed to not make the playoffs until Carter was traded to LA.
The Kings will now face St. Louis in the 2nd round. That is going to be one hell of a battle.
I didn't think they'd make it in(Dallas Collapsed), but once they did I'm not the least bit surprised they pulled off the upset. Even before the trade deadline they had a ton of talent and Quick is great. Parity has made these playoffs great.
And it's well deserved. Vancouver's flopping around (particularly Kesler) was disgraceful.
Apparently Kesler wasn't going to let Brown captain the US dive team without putting up a fight.
Funny you say that, on the winning goal, it almost looked like Hamhus was attempting to embellish the contact and it took him completely out of the play that led to the 2 on 1.

I have high hopes for stone too but wow. Z was our best defensemen when he was here. And that was covering jovos ass. Imagine if hed been playing with anyone else. He was always willing to block shots, had great position and stick. He didnt take dumb penalties or cause problems.
i dont know how he has been in pittsburgh but he was often our only respectable defensemen
Really looking forward to watching three Game 7s coming up. Playoff hockey is so much fun to watch. It's always a little sad though when the 1st round starts coming to a close and there aren't like 4 games to watch everyday.
