Very sad but true. IF we do go into a rebuild, and IF Jarome asks for a trade, I don't think anyone can be furious or feel betrayed because Iggy's done everything in his power for this organization.
I dread that this day would ever come, but do you think Iggy will get traded this off-season?
It would be hard to see him traded I grew up cheering for him but it would be selfish to expect him to stay for a rebuild and not go after a cup even if it is in a different uniform. If he is moved it better be for a good package that will hopefully help the franchise long term.
The writer of this article is making a lot of assumptions from Iggy's comments. Iggy said he doesn't want afull rebuild. So hence he doesn't want to be traded, he doesn't want Kipper to be traded, and he doesn't want Cammy, Tangs, etc. to be traded. That's what I know to be a full rebuild: trading away the core players for prospects and picks.
So how does the writer take away the notion that Iggy "may request a trade"?
Obviously these types of articles are written to be read, but you know this source is desperate for uneducated readers when they blatantly make something from nothing and have the balls to put their fingerprint on it. Meh.... it's the internet.
If the Flames can't make some decent moves in the off season, I want Iggy to get moved to a contender in the east, at least then I'll have someone to cheer for in next year's playoffs.
Let's say Jarome was traded for some nice pieces. There would still be a chance he comes back in a year after we offer him a new contract. This way he can get a shot at a Cup with a favorite, then he's back in a lesser role for us with hopefully more depth. Retires a Flame.

As much as I would love to have him back I think if we trade him he is gone for good. He is very loyal and any team that trades significant assets to get him he will most likely stay with them.
I don't care where Iginla goes, I just want to see him moved. It's time to move on and change the dynamics of the leadership group and the the attitudein the dressing room. Thanks Iggy! Your number will be retired almost immediately after you retire, so we'll see you again.

You forgot to add "Don't let the door hit you on the way out".

I will definitely be extremely emotional if that day ever comes around, but at the same time should the return be sufficient I think it is best for both parties involved.
I wonder what teams are really willing to offer. We're not going to get the Dubinsky, Kreider, Miller, (Erixon?), 1st that the Rags offered Nash but what about Dub, Kreider and a 1st?
I don't think Iggy will be moved, I have a feeling Kipper is going to get moved for some young pieces though.
If Iggy goes, I don't care where it is. I just want to see him win a cup.
no i dont think kippers going anywhere, i think he stays a flame and iggys traded. and the managment didnt want to trade him during the season cause the price wouldnt be right. With a very weak FA pool expect there to be biding wars for players.
Iggy will be traded and then feasters gonna give a 1 year deal to semin to replace the production for a competitive rebuild. (i think the flames will be most active the draft and free agency)
It would be a terribly sad day for me.. I would love to see him on the pens. NOT the rangers, thats where former superstars go to die. Idk, writing seems to be on the wall, although they did make some assumptions, this was the first time he didnt come out and say he wanted to stay. That plus the rumours of ownership wanting him to get a cup and Lanny saying he needs to chase the cup.. dang, makes me sad thinking about it
I would not be upset at all if we traded him. Iggy is my favorite player and I would be sad to see him go. But, I think it would be best for him and the organization. He is getting towards the end of his career, he is a great player and I would really like to see him finish his career with a Stanley Cup ring and I doubt this is going to happen with the Flames. It would clearly be good for the organization because the return would be great. I would in no way be sour and I wouldn't be surprised if he resigned with the Flames after his current contract is up. He clearly loves the team, the fans, and the city.

This is the big question, folks.
Fan bases tend to overvalue their team's assets in a huge way. Cory Schneider is an example in VanCity.
What is the market value for a 35 year-old, 30 goal scorer with a $7M contract?
From an outsiders point of view, Dubinsky, Kreider and a #1 pick seems to be an overpayment for Iggy. Maybe one of the players mentioned above and a 1st, but both or more?

look at the market for other players available via trade.
Dustin Penner got a 1st, Cond. 2nd and Tuebert
Tomas Kaberle got a 1st, Cond. 2nd and Colborne
Paul Gaustad got a 1st
Jeff Cater (and his boat anchor of a contract) got a 1st (8th overall), Voracek (a top 10 pick just 4 years prior and coming off back to back 45+ point seasons) and a 3rd........ then he got a 1st and Jack Johnson despite a poor season and character questions
and you question if Iginla is worth a top prospect, a late 1st and a 2nd liner? Keep in mind the significant difference in value between a late 1st and the 8th overall pick
