Mock Research: Who do you pick?

I'm working on a mock draft, but I honestly have no idea which direction you guys will go in. My gut tells me Grigorenko, but I've seen several mocks that have you taking a defenseman. Since this pick will determine a lot of what happens in my mock, I figured I'd just go to the source and ask the Oil fans for their opinions.

I was going to post this in your Draft thread but I thought a poll would be easier.

*BTW, I meant "WHO" do you pick... I'm dumb.

Who do I think they should take? Grigorenko.

My gut tells me Stu and the gang like Murray too much to pass him up though. I can see a trade happening where we swap with Montreal and pick up a 3rd or something if it comes to that.

Ryan Murray was Everett in the playoffs. His performance there overshadows the potential of Dumba's crazed style of play that I really think this team could benefit from. It's not that bad of a concession, because I love Murray.

Stu's laid a lotta love on Murray, so that's my perceptive choice. Just can't explain it

I saw a piece on Dumba yesterday on CBC and I am leaning that way. Last year I was even considering Adam Larson over RNH. I know we should go BPA but after years of piling up forwards we need to get some D.

BPA= Grigorenko. His combo of hands, size and speed are too good to pass up.

Grigorenko, solely because depth down the middle is crucial in being good for a very long time.

Although I'd have no problem with taking a D, I'd just prefer not worrying about centers for the next 10 years.

This...we are talking about the potential to have a 1b centerman. We didn't even have a first line center until this year. Now we can shore up that position for years.

Though I hope Stu sees that Galchenyuk is his man...any three of these players and I will be happy

BPA is subjective so it could be any of the top 10.

Thanks guys. It's about what I expected. A pretty close poll with Grigorenko edging out Murray. I'll take your word for it and go with Grigs in my mock, although I wouldn't be shocked if Murray is the pick on draft day.

The common misconception is that we need Dman. It should be we need NHL proven Dman.

If you look at our prospects right now we need some high end forwards.
Forward:
Lander, Pitlick, Hamilton, Rieder.....
Dman:
Klefbom, Marincin, Gernat, Musil, Davidson, Blain, Bigos...

I am on that really believes you can get legit Dman in late 1st and 2nd round but high end offence is very hard to get that late.

I think the talent is there if we go Murray and I wouldnt be too upset but Grigs is the smart pick for our team and move Gagner for NHL ready Dman (Gormely). I dont hold my breath on that idea though becuase that would require our GM to not sit on his hands.

I agree with this. I won't be disappointed if we get Murray and he turns out OK. But we could use a LOT of forward depth still. At every position. But its always good to be deep down the middle and build from there. Its easier to find wingers later on. I wouldn't leave Griggs on the table and risk that blowing up in our faces.

If we don't draft a dman the media will freak. I guarantee the oilers take one. I'm just hoping its not a trade down to take Reinhart.

I think the media and other fan bases overrate the offensive depth within the Oilers organization.

The Oilers have Hall, Eberle and RNH... that's one VERY solid forward line that could become one of the very best in the entire NHL.

Then it's a mishmash of "decent" players and some solid looking prospects.

The Oilers defensive prospect pool is likely as strong or stronger than their forward prospects so saying that the Oilers need good dmen more than good forwards is a misnomer. They need help at ALL positions... forwards, defense and goaltending.

Personally I'd take Grigorenko over Murray but I honestly have no idea which the Oilers prefer. You can make equally valid arguments for both. I think there's actually a high chance they trade the pick as well depending on what they can get in return because that high pick they have is extremely valuable with so few high end forwards in this draft and obviously not every team in the NHL wants to draft a dman with their 1st pick.

Problem is that none of those defensemen look like they'll put up any points.

Most pressing need on the team as far as I'm concerned is some offensive defensemen.

But if Grigorenko is better than Murray or Dumba you sort of have to take him.

I think that marincin and gernat will have a pretty good offensive upside.

Depends on where they end up picking.

1. Yakupov
2. Grigorenko/Murray (If they feel confident about Petry/Klefbom/Marincin, they pick grigorenko and do not think twice).
3. Murray

judging by the poll, seems posters will be just as split on Grigorenko/Murray as they were with Hall/Seguin.
