Someone please explain how Crosby is a generational talent?
I think he has a lot to prove still and may not even be the best player on his team (Malkin); it is absurd people try to pin him against Gretz, Orr, Howe, etc.
Lets look at the facts:
How many Art Ross's has he won? How many Goal scoring titles? How many MVP's? How many points does he have in the Stanley Cup Finals?
Gretzky dominated the competition, the year Sid won the Art Ross he beat out Thornton by only 6 points...check out Gretz's points in comparison to the next guy over his career.
2005-06: Joe Thornton top scorer
2006-07: Sidney top scorer
2007-08: Ovechkin top scorer
2008-09: Malkin top scorer
2009-10: H. Sedin top scorer
2010-11: D. Sedin top scorer
2011-12: Malkin top scorer
So Crosby the greatest player of his generation has 1 whooping Art Ross trophy; people need to stop beleiving the media hype and look at facts.
It is absurd that 1 Art Ross in 7 years puts him in the generational category, that must mean Jim Carey is the greatest goalie of his generation since he won 1 Vezina with the Capitals in 1996...crazy people.

This is clearly someone who doesn't watch Crosby play. Face it, friend, you're not a hockey expert because you can see the nhl.com leading scorers page.

So disappointed I read the whole OP just to get there. Good thing Crosby's not accomplished anything besides that 1 Art Ross...er I mean
Come on you know he has had injury problems the past couple seasons, and if they never happened he would have killed the competition. The points per game the past couple years is a good representation of that. Yea some people will argue that he isn;t durable and that he doesn't deserve any recognition for the numbers that he did put in half/quarter seasons. But it is a concussion he has been dealing with, and a bad one at that, hardly Sidneys fault, and it doesn't make him weak just becuase he has had to miss a lot of games becuase of it. If Sidney plays at the same level he has played the last few years for a full season next year, he will win a scoring title by 20-30 points.
First off, he is 24 years old. Second, he has had a concussion problem for the last year or so. That might have been holding him back a bit. Third, he has already won multiple awards. Fourth, he was highly touted/coveted when he was a young kid, more so than others. Fifth, Wayne Gretzky had said he is someone who could break his records (if I remember correctly) and has had very high praise for him. Sixth, judging by your user name you are a Flyers fan and are just being.....well a Flyers fan.

Crazy people alright... please include yourself...
Haha, Mark Messier leadership award?
Stanley Cup is a team award.
Sporting news NHL player of the year...hahah
Lou Marsh award...haha
Youngest player captained...hahaha
So many of those awards are useless and bias, real awards are Art Ross, MVP, Rocket Richard, Selke, Conn Smythe, etc not 80% of the ones you listed.
Crosby is a great player no doubt, but generational is a joke right now...
1st draft pick overall? that's your argument he's a great player...hahaha

Gretz said Paul Kariya would have been better than him in the 80's also....please take what Wayne says with a grain of salt, he's a modest person.

You are right about one thing; currently Malkin is the best player in the world. But IMO Crosby is potentially the best player in the world. Crazy you don't know how good he is considering you're a flyers fan.

Do you watch him play?
So basically, since 2007, which was five full seasons ago, he's shared a goal scoring title, won a Stanley Cup, and won a "leadership" award???
If it wasn't for injuries, he'd have a lot more hardware. The type of domination he's shown throughout his career hasn't been seen since Jagr dominated the game.
