Hell, that might happen whether PA re-signs or not.
I really hope not. I only expect 1 rookie who isn't quite NHL ready on the team next year. and that's Petrov. but it wouldn't shock me at all to see Strome, DeHaan, Donnovan, Nino & Petrov all waste 2012-13 on the NY Islanders. i guess if they did that there'd be no room for Langenbrunner & Knuble though.
Jaime Langenbrunner will be 37 this summer. You can practically pencil him into our opening night lineup already!
Fits all of Snows main criteria. Old, over the hill, used to be good, can be signed to an inflated deal, will bring zero to little production, has "leadership", somewhat relevant name around NY, and American. His only flaw is that he was born in Minnesota and not near Boston.
Jaime Langenbrunner come on down and please accept your lotto ticket!
Seriously, are any of you really surprised by this?? If Snow had come out and said "we have big plans for making a few splashes this summer", now THAT would've been a surprise.
He is basically saying that they've got the kids pencilled in for next season, but what he doesn't say is how they'll get to the effing floor!!
Not at all phased by this; what is he supposed to say: "We're gonna sign Suter and Parise!" That'd be idiotic. I think the very first phrase is key this year as it was last year. They're going to make some great offers to the best players (likely get rejected even though offering more than others), make some good offers to the next tier and so on and so on... It makes no sense to drive the cost of free agents up when the playoffs haven't even started.
Snow tried to get a top pairing DMAN last offseason and will do the same again this one. I think he should be able to get a legit top 4 main, which, considering Streit, Hamonic and MacD, I would call "acceptable." If he does not, he's failed. That should be priority number 1. Priority number 2 is getting one more top 6 talent on offense. Also, somewhat achievable.
"We'll go into the draft and free agency with the same mind-set we've had: We'll try to improve the team any way we can, but within the framework of our game plan," Snow said Sunday. "I don't envision any big changes..."
Honestly, I like the plan. We get one of the top prospects this year. Next year we have a decent chance at Nathan McKinnon, the year after that we shoot for Aaron Ekblad, the following year, Connor McDavid. We're going to keep the pedal to the metal and keep building on these young phenoms. Before you know it, with John Tavares already in the fold, but 2015, we will have pissed off enough young phenoms that men's league players from Long Island won't want to sign with the Islanders. That's right folks, people would rather pay to play than play for the Islanders.
how many people who complained in this thread purchased a ticket to watch the isles play a home game this year? if you did, don't complain. if you did, you are supporting charles wang and his way of running a national hockey league franchise.
from the hiring and firing of general managers in 6 week time periods, to circumventing the salary cap, to what amounts to banning islander all time greats from the building, wang continues to disgrace what many years ago was a classy organization.
and what is the response of some? to actually attend games!!! so, go ahead. go to that precious little exhibition game at the nets facility. give charles wang your HARD EARNED money. buy tickets for next year's season. put your money in his pocket while he slaps you in the face.
when your employer slaps you in the face by presenting you with a horrible contract, what can you do about it? strike. surround your place of business and don't let anyone in. break your employer. there is a reason why there are a lot of higher paying working class jobs out there in this day and age and it's because these battles have been fought and won before. it's time for isles fans to stand up and fight for what they believe in.
you want to change this team? don't spend a single dime on them. if you do, you're supporting this owner and his way of thinking.
if you pull your funds from the team, trust me, it is not going to get worse. they can't become more mickey mouse than they already are.
so what say you? strike? if not, please spare this message board your "i hate wang" posts because you are the one who is allowing this man to actually own a team.
This team is such a joke. Not that anyone should have been expecting anything different. So I guess 3 games out of 82 means the team is right there with Philly and Detroit.
And I truly hope when he was talking about the "great prospect pool" he wasn't including Nino. I don't care how old he is. I don't care if he's 19. I don't care if he's 12. I don't care if you are on the first line or the fourth line. You just don't go 50 games without scoring a point. It's actually impossible. A puck deflects off your junk to a team mate and he puts it in. A shot from the point hits you in the helmet and it bounces in. SOMETHING happens in a 50 game span to get you AT LEAST 3 or 4 points. Steve Webb would accumulate 5 or 6 points in the same amount of games. Hell, Mick Vukota scored a hat trick in a game against Washington one night. If that's their "top prospect", might as well just blow it up now.
Wouldn't be shocked if he said this to set the bar low. He came out last year talking about our need for a top-4 d-man, and while he did attempt it, he couldn't get it done. If he pursues a few options this summer and gets one or two big things done...we all become pleasantly surprised.
So Basically there sine with missing the playoffs.
IMO after a few years of a rebuild and your still a lottery team you should start to think about making some changes. Im sick of hearing about how we are a young team. By Augast we will be able to tell if were going to make the playoffs next year.

As with all of our media anymore, the fact that no one calls out Garth on his BS says it all. Nothing will change until our media gets some teeth.
We need ALL Islanders media to be like Botta, they can't lock out every newspaper, magazine, tv channel, etc...
That, and have the NHL intervene on this cap circumvention and burying a once proud franchise into the core of the planet.
