I don't want to sound rude, but who here really thinks Garth isn't going to try to improve the Isles?

He's gonna offer money to some UFAs, he's gonna try to get that top 4 d-man, he's gonna try to make the Isles better.

He's gonna try. Its that simple.

Trying doesn't meant anything, results do. This is not 4th grade soccer

And I get that.

I also hope you understand that he is not going to sit on his hands and do nothing.

He did the equivalent of that last year. He signed Reasoner and then because he couldn't sign another player nor make a trade to make the team better and had to reach the floor he traded for Rolston, and while doing that he helped a division rival sign their star and then brought in Staios and Pandolfo, both combined for 3 million to the cap with only 1.4 going to salary.

More sanity.

Also, we have the possibility of the salary cap dropping. The Isles have a ton of desirable assets - problem being that they're all anywhere from 1-3 years away from the NHL. Snow will place a high price on good prospects that may be of interest to the teams immediately below, on, or above this hopefully lower cap to avoid getting low-balled, and hopefully another GM will bite.

Curious how much comes off the books this year, and how much will need to be replaced. THAT is going to dictate much of what is offered since Wang can only cheat the cap floor so much.

The only thing he understands is how to rip snow at any given chance. Seriously, the propaganda is old... and annoying.

While I do agree that trying doesn't mean jack in sports, I think he WANTS to make the team better. Wang has his hands tied. Sure, he made that stupid comment before. We all know how bad it sounded. Most likely, he came up with it on his own but as long as Wang is running the circus, we will never know what Garth REALLY thinks.

I don't think he is a great GM by any means. He has made some good moves (P.A., Grabner, Moulson) and some bad moves. But at the end of the day, he is an extension of the owner. He can only offer what the owner is willing to offer. If Wang want's to offer a guy $3 million and snow thinks the guy is worth $5 million, quite frankly it doesn't matter how far Snow is willing to go. He doesn't control the checkbook.

Snow can ONLY be as good as what Wang gives him to work with. Basically, he is being asked to be an artist with no paint brush and no paint.

You have to believe this "no roster shakeup" includes an extension of Parenteau?

Honestly, no I don't think he's going to try to improve the isles in any significant way.

The way I'm feeling right now, we'll see this lineup next year

Moulson JT Okposo
Bailey Nielsen Ullstrom
Martin Strome Petrov
Knuble/Langenbrunner Reasoner Nino

Streit Hamonic
De Haan MacDonald
Reese Donnovan

And they will suck yet again. This is a complete joke. The season just ended and the clown of a GM is saying that he ISNT making any changes to a team that finished 27th. Anyone who defends Snow needs to read this. The guy is awful. And a ****ing scam by circumventing the cap. The guys on the ice have no shot. Not when your on ice slary is half of what it "should be".

They will suck again. And this team is a joke.

I agree snow shouldn't have said that. It made him and the team sound stupid and pathetic. But maybe he's just being honest. He can't make any changes to this team because wang won't let him. I feel pretty dumb "defending" Snow (although I won't say I am defending him really) but the problems with this franchise start and end with the owner.

Absolutely. Wang is a joke of an owner. Snow is a joke of a GM. I am sick and tired of all this ****. Even within a budget, Snow signs the wrong guys. He sucks.

Ahhh common' people...

Look at the way the boys ended the season.

Streit would have had like 60 points at that clip. It's happening next year. Take it to the bank.

Bailey and Okposo came to life. They'll each bang in 50+ next season.

Nielsen was awesome once the confidence level grew - he's good for 50.

JT and Moulson will have another 150+ between them. No doubts there.

Hamonic and MacDonald were purely snakebitten during this season. Look for each to easily pot 30+ pts once they experience some consistency.

Sure Parenteau is pricing himself out of our range, but this kid Petrov is coming in and will be like.... well you just can't imagine. His power forward game will have him up in 40 pointville - and he'll be a fan favorite!

Speaking of which, Marty learned a lot this year. He'll turn some of those excess hits into an extra pot of goals, say 15 of them.

Now, Niederreiter didn't do much this season, but he learned a lot about how embarrassing it can be to play sucky, so he'll get the necessary skating lessons and bulk up and then all those opportunities will turn into points. Look for him to go from 1 to 25 points in no time flat.

Nabakov is positioned to regain his throne as a top 10 goalie in this league. Just look at those 10 or so games where he was like really good.

To top it off, Ullstrom has arrived. A little more fine-tuning and he'll have 20 goals next season.

Ohhhh, and wait until you see the impact Strome is going to make. Yikes!

Anyhow, last season the team had a lot of guys have big offensive conclusions to their years.

So expect that to lead to the same type of success as it did to kick off this past season!

One is dumb, the other is dumber I agree. Snow is Wang's puppet. But Wang is the puppet master so at least in my eyes, I trace everything bad that Garth does right back to the owner.

The Pandolfo, Reasoner and Rolston signings were AWFUL. Disgustingly bad. But at that price range, who else was the team going to sign? Snow might be the worst GM in the NHL, but we will never know exactly because of the constraints set upon him by Wang. I can't fully judge Snow until I see him work within a normal budget. Wang I can judge from day one. Lunatic, crazy person and most importantly... worst owner in the history of sports.

Thats what I am saying. He maybe could have used that money spent on those three jerkoffs he could have signed actual guys that helped the team. And Reasoner got two years!!!!

I don't understand the Snow bashing.

To me, his worst mistakes were not trading Comeau when he had value, keeping Rolston on the roster for way to long, and not firing Capuano. None of these moves have crippled this team. So to sit there and say Snow is a bad GM is nuts. I can name a bunch of gm's, who had no restrictions, ruin franchises. Garth is nowhere near that category.

I think people forget that Snow inherited a crappy NHL team, with ZERO prospects.

Look at the Islander and BST rosters the year he was hired, and look at what they have now. I'm not saying Garth has been perfect, but you're not going to convince me he should be fired.

Now Wang on the other hand....

Garth doesn't have to do anything but say yes to Wang. Its Wang's World baby. Garth isn't even pretending to be a GM at this point with statements like this. Would you ever see Holland or Lamoriello say something this stupid?

Prospects don't need to earn a roster spot on the Isles anymore. When PA walks this Summer, Wang will be happy to give the opening to Strome.

I wonder what Snow does/says at the GM meetings.

He must be the butt of everyone's jokes

Do you think he needs a permission slip from Wang to go, or does Wang go with him and walk him to the room and let him play nicely with the other GMs?

As long as Wang is owner there is no good news.

Celebrating NOT trading prospects is like being on the Titanic and celebrating a nice cruising speed.
