Who Will Romney Pick for VP

Lots of contenders. Rubio. Ryan and Christie are being mentioned. But McCain tried the off the board, game change approach with the biggest nincompoop around last time and subsequently ruined his campaign.

It is the first big test of a candidates ability and credibility. Who do you think Romney will go for?

Rick Perry would be my guess. To a Republican, Romney counts as a Northern moderate, so he'll want a vice presidential candidate who can excite the core of the party.

I'd go with Ken Huckabee instead, but frankly, that name is just too easy to mock. The media's going to mock the Republican candidate mercilessly anyway, there's no need to pitch them a softie.

Any moderate GOP member with serious future White House aspirations will be wary of being Romney's VP seeing as victory is incredibly unlikely.

I hope it's Santorum though for the entertainment value.

He'd have to be someone extremely religious with a history of legislating or attempting to legislate his view of morality on others. What about Sam Brownback?

Perry would be Palin 2.0. Romney's younger age vs McCain might allow him to survive it had this been 2008, but with the issues in the GOP these days, I think Perry would kill the little remaining center/center-right support that they have. I doubt Romney and his aides would be dumb enough to make that mistake again.

I wouldn't be surprised if Romney goes completely off the board to someone that was never seriously in the nomination race or not in it at all. Just to throw a name out there, how about Giuliani?

I assume you meant Mike Huckabee.

And Rick Perry's limited intellect will disqualify him. He was a poor student at an Aggie school. Presumably, Romney will have higher standards than that. He will place Perry in the cabinet in charge of one of three Federal Departments. Either The Dept. of Energy, or Dept. of Education...or a third one...what is it again?

More important for the GOP will be who shines at the convention. Obama's grassroot campaign can be directly attributed to his DNC '04 speech, where he stole the show. The GOP needs to find someone who can energize the entire party and heal the brand in the eyes of moderates/non-fundamental Christians.

I don't see Giuliani being a contender at all. Besides the fact that the socially conservative base will be pissed due him being a moderate on the issues they think are important, he doesn't really bring anything to the table other than national security/neocon cred, and no one really cares about that in the current political climate.

Touche. As I said, just throwing a name out there. I don't see any of the core group of contenders getting the nomination, though. It's going to be someone off the board.

It'll probably be someone off the map. Someone like Rand Paul.

How much education does a man need to have to bang a gavel occasionally in the Senate and break ties once in a blue moon?

I'm not sure why anyone dynamic would be interested in hitching themselves to Mitt's prairie wagon of blandness (*ducks "ZOMG religious bigotry!" fire*).

Why would accusing someone of being bland incite someone to accuse you of religious bigotry?

I got into it a bit with someone for religious bigotry, because he was mocking the LDS faith, not just Romney.

The biggest problem for Romney is how to pick a candidate that will appeal to the base but not frighten the majority of independents who decide the outcome. They used to try for geographical balance as well but that is no longer necessary as the south wi
L vote for any Republican candidate...well, mabe not Michael Steele.

I agree he may go off the board to really grab some attention. But if I had to bet money, I'd place my bet on Paul Ryan.

The LDS faith deserves to be mocked. It is patently insane.

Yeah, now you see this? This is religious bigotry. If you want to go after Romney's character then attack his character, but leave the church out of it.

You guys would mock the Christians if they made an issue of a man running for office who happened to be Atheist or Agnostic, so don't do the same thing.

While I agree that the VP does not have to be a genius, he should not have he reputation of being a stupe...and that image of Perry is burned into the brain of the electorate after the early GOP debates.

I think he'd be crazy to pick anyone other than Marco Rubio.

If it can be backed up with demonstrable proof, then it's not.

Mormonism is as stupid and laughable as Scientology.

As far as Romney is concerned, Rubio makes sense, but I doubt it matters in the end. Romney's campaign is pathetic.

The question isn't whether Rubio would be a good pick for Romney, it's whether or not Rubio would actually want to accept.
