The free agency list isn't AS bad as some people make it out to be. Some solid wingers still on board.
Personally, I'd like the Canucks to try and nab Kristian Huselius for a cheap deal, get a solid playmaker for Kesler and really cement that second line.
definitely nitpicking, but won't Matt Kassian and Brian Connelly be Group VIs as well?
I just go with whatever capgeek tells me. Right now they have Connelly as an UFA and Kassian as a RFA.
Also, Iiro Tarkki who played the majority of the season with Syracuse of the AHL but also got into a game with Anaheim in the NHL (Playing just under 41 minutes, he had a GAA of 4.39 and a Save PCT of .700) has signed with Salavat Yulaev of the KHL. Tarkki, 26, is scheduled to become a RFA this summer.
Oh, I see what you guys are going on about. Fixed. You know, it works a lot better if straight up tell me what the problem is, I did type those posts up entirely by hand, there's bound to be a few typos.
Is he even a pending UFA? Capgeek has him as a RFA w/ a $826,875 QO.
Capgeek.com is a great source of contract information so it hurts me to nitpick. I do this so we don't squabble about the correct status of a few players. For example, Mark Mancari won't turn 27 years old until July 10, 2012. That would make him a potential RFA. Capgeek.com told me, "This was initially a mistake on our part, however, there's about a 99 per cent chance he's going to be a Group 6 anyway so we'll just leave him as a UFA. Thanks!"
Everybody will be on the same page on July 1 anyway...and then we get busy moving players to new teams or to the UFA list.
Also, according to Elite Prospects, Alex Henry who was under contract to Montreal this past season while playing in the AHL has signed with Dusseldorfer of Germany.
Mancari is a Group 6 UFA. Due to a birthdate error, he was incorrectly listed as a UFA earlier this season before he achieved that status. Kassian's status has been changed to UFA. Connelly was already listed as a UFA.

All right, I'll fix those.
Also, Michael Ryan, who was under contract to Buffalo last season while playing with Rochester of the AHL, has signed with Assat of the SM-liiga. Ryan is scheduled to become an UFA this July.
A lot of rumors out there that Tampa Bay is talking to Riku Helenius. Helenius was Tampa's 1st pick, 15th overall in 2006, but struggled to get ice-time in the pros (He played for 5 different teams in one year!). After a year a half of this, he went and played in Sweden for two seasons, before returning to Finland this past year. Tampa continued to qualify him so as to retain his rights and it may have paid off as he played terrific this year in Finland. Tampa's a team with goalie issues and Helenius could be the wild-card solution. Today's rumors, however, are that he will only return for a 1-way deal and that KHL teams may be bidding for his services.
Pavel Valentenko, who was under contract to the Rangers this year and played for Connecticut of the AHL, has signed with Avangard Omsk, per Elite Prospects. Valentenko, 24, was a lesser-known part of the famous Scott Gomez/Ryan McDonagh trade.

Actually Valentenko was once a decent prospect. He was arguably the best dman in Hamilton during his rookie season in 07-08. Habs hoped that he could be a decent 3rd pairing dmen. However, he left Hamilton to play in the KHL in 08-09.
I also think that he almost the Rangers squad two years ago. However, now, with all the young prospects that they have, he was falling really far on the depth chart.
