I don't agree.

I think this was a move to put one of the rookies (Hamilton or Krug), in the minors. I expect XLB to be the #7 (at short money).

X was a beast in Atlanta. Unfortunately his brains turned to scrambled eggs and he was never the same. After that was one of Wadell's only good moves, fleecing Burke.

exelby forgot how to play defense years ago, and that's a death sentence to a defensive d-man. concussions took their toll on him.

he can't even play defence, he is only there to play physical and push guys out of the crease. Great AHL signing.

Hamilton can't go to the minors until next season.

It's possible XLB is the 7th dman, but I hope not. Last time I saw him in the NHL he looked like a shell of his former self, and 2 years without playing 1 game in the NHL isn't a good sign for a 31 year old player.

Not sure if it's a two-way or a AHL contract
This is one of the reasons why I think Twitter is so useless. It's tough to figure out what's going on in a lot of these updates. From what little info there is it looks like an AHL contract.

The OHL is the minors. At least, I consider them as much.

I would have preferred Mottau (or a dozen other guys), but I'll take a 10 year pro with NHL experience over two rookies.

Sad to see how far XLB has fallen. He was a bad man for Atlanta.

Are you telling me that you would rather see Exelby playing in Boston this year instead of Dougie Hamilton ????

i think what he is saying is that he would rather see a combination of Exelby and one of the rookies (probably Hamilton) over Hamilton and Krug, two rookies. not Exelby over both, just over one. i hope Krug plays in Providence next season and Hamilton is with the Bruins. it wouldn't make sense to have one of the rookie defensemen sitting in the press box and not playing.

ideally i would like Exelby playing in Providence too and have the Bruins bring back Mottau as the #7 defensemen. MacD on the other hand i would love to see be the 13th forward on the Bruins.

Yes.

Fwiw, I expect Hamilton to make the team, but if he wasn't ready, if having him up was going to do more harm than good, then I'd rather have any vet on the team than risk his development.

The more likely scenario is that Hamilton makes it, leaving Krug in the press box. And again, what's better for Krug's development, sitting in the stands in Boston, or playing hockey in Providence? Remember, the kid is yet to play 3 professional hockey games. In his life.

Edit: What Stock said.

I went back and reread Bill Ladd's post and you're probably right. Sorry about that Bill. I also like your scenario about bringing back Mottau as insurance but I haven't heard anything at all about Boston management thinking along those lines.

A few salary details per capgeek

Hamill 1 year $700,000 2 way
Sneep 1 year $525,000 2 way
Veilleux 1 year $525,000 2 way

Also a re-signing to announce, also per capgeek, Philadelphia has re-signed Ben Holmstrom to a 1 year 2-way deal worth $550,000. Holmstrom was a RFA. Last season he had 41 points in 67 games with Adirondack of the AHL along with 0 points in 5 games in the NHL with Philadelphia.

I have no problem signing Exelby. Providence needs players and he'll be there in case of a flood of injuries. But the guy can't play any more. The "10 year pro" has 6 years of NHL experience and 4 years of AHL experience, including the last 2. That's trending down.

I like the Exelby signing simply because he'll prevent one of the rookies from sitting on the bench as the 7th d man (ala Kampfer last year). This doesn't include Hamilton for me tho, because i think even if Hamilton struggles at first, he'll remain a Bruin. I have no problem with Exelby rotting in the pressbox for 60 games and stepping into sheltered minutes when theres a needed maintenance day for one of the six.

I think we'll go into the season with this depth...Chara, Seidenberg, Boychuk, McQuaid, Ference, Hamilton, Exelby, Krug, the rest of the average D prospects in Providence.

I see this signing as both depth and insurance, and a way to prevent the Krug and Warsofskys of the world from sitting on the bench in the NHL.

Per Elite Prospects, Doug Janik, who played last year for Grand Rapids of the AHL while under contract to Detroit, has signed with Adler Mannheim of Germany. Janik, 32, was an UFA. He was originally drafted by Buffalo in the 2nd round, 55th overall, in 1999.

Also per EP, Mathieu Roy, who played last year for Charlotte of the AHL while under contract to Carolina, has signed with Hamburg of Germany. Roy, 28, was an UFA. He was originally drafted by Edmonton in the 7th round, 215th overall, in 2003.

Montreal RFA Aaron Palushaj has re-signed with Montreal to a 1 year 2-way deal. Palushaj, 22, had a 1 goal and 4 assists in 38 games with Montreal last season. A 2nd round pick, 44th overall, by St. Louis, he was acquired by Montreal in a trade for Matt D'Agostini.

Not sure if it's a two-way or a AHL contract
BTW, this is now confirmed as an AHL deal.
