Let's just assume Columbus wins the lottery and gets Yakupov, and then Edmonton takes Grigorenko 2nd overall...
They want a Dman, goalie and/or a higher pick than 32nd for this package. What does your team offer?
Note: let's just take the draft order from the standings, so for example, Sens could offer 15th overall (just an example). And they would likely prefer something that would allow them to take a Dman in the draft.
Yipes.... Gagner only moves us up 14 places in the draft... to put us at 11 places after he himself was drafted... and he's still, 5 years after draft day, the 2nd best scorer from his draft class... a full 20% above the 3rd best scorer from that class?
Either this is the draft of the century or, true to form, people are overvaluing these picks.
History would show (as sad as that may be) that he's already covered the bet on his own draft position, let alone 7 positions below. And yeah... even if you concede that he might only be the 10th or 12th or so best option from his draft year if you re-ranked today... and that's quite arguable.... still, those picks were scattered through 3 rounds, as they always are... It is GUARANTEED the top 15 picks in this will not all turn out better than Gags.
These offers might be a bit better if Gagner could put together a few more 8 point games.
Well the fact that he has an 8 point game says something about him. Gagner is a perfect 2nd line center for a lot of teams, but his value is nowhere near what Oiler fans would like out of a 6th overall pick. It is not his fault that the 2007 draft was so weak. The fact is these offers are a little on the low side, but closer to real value than oiler fans are hoping.
My suggestion:
Sam Gagner and the 32nd to pho for Gormley.
This give pho a scoring forward to help up front and fills that need from a depth position. The oilers add a bonifide 2 way d-man and then draft Grigorenko.
If Turris could fetch Rundblad, Maybe Gagner plus our second could get gormley.
Rundblad was lost for the majority of his stint with the Senators. He was ineffective and Ottawa made a huge playoff surge once he was gone because of his huge defensive issues. Most of the reasoning is the huge transition of ice surface with playing style that a player like Gormley has absolutely no issue with.
I actually like Rundblad, he is exciting 20% of the time. Its the other 80% which is why he is in the AHL.

They already have Antoine Vermette, who is underrated offensively and much better defensively, who is also tight checking and fits their game to a tee. They would be trading a very good defensive prospect, who rightfully should be in their future plans on the d-core once the retirees are gone. Unlike Sam Gagner who is rather unneeded on Phoenix.
edit : About the eight point game, lets see how many of those he gets when he isn't paired with Eberle(who is an unreal hockey player).
If Phoenix just traded Kyle Turris for David Rundblad, I don't think they're about to trade David Rundblad for Kyle Turris.
But if you want a valuation of Gagner: There it is. He's got similar, if not greater value to Kyle Turris. Consider the return (David Rundblad), the 32nd (perhaps 31st) overall pick and you've got yourself a pretty fair return in Brandon Gormely territory. You've just got to find yourself a buyer. Phoenix isn't it.
If Reinhart (or Dumba) is available at #11 then this package would be worth the move up. WSH has that pick from COL as of now and could use a 2nd line C.
<especially if the Oilers draft a C with their 1st pick>
