Garon the next Kiprusoff?

It looks like a lot of people here @ HF Boards is very high on Mathieu.
I agree with them...

That's because a lot of them are Canadien fans who think he should have been the starter over Theodore.

I think Garon has a great shot to be a very good starter. He is younger than Theodore by two years, and he was generally thought to be a better prospect before Jose exploded for his MVP season. I think the main problem with him is that he played behind Jose, and understandably never got a real shot. That's all.

Until Garon proves it like Kiprusoff did I can't say he is the next Kiprusoff. But I will tell you this I have wanted Garon in a Kings uniform for about 3 years. He is proving he can dominate the AHL, especially this year. Now if he shows it with the Kings. Then he will be the MAN!!!!

I'm a Canucks fan, and have seen him play. You guys got a big time goaltender (in the near future) on your hands.

Toronto fan here, and I think Garon may be better than Jose Theodore in the next couple years. You guys stole him from Montreal, he's going to be amazing.

Let's see how Kiprusoff does in an entire season before we hope Garon becomes the next Kiprusoff

Not to knock Kiprusoff, but goaltenders who have one good run in the playoffs have a tendency to raise the expectations of them unnecessarily.

Well the Irish version is, "Dont put all of your eggs in one basket, or all of your whiskey in one guest."

I'm a Habs fan. I absolutely loved the fact that Montreal had Theodore as a starter and Garon as a back up. If Theodore ever faltered, the Habs had a guy waiting in the wings who was, in my opinion, just as good!

Garon has some of the fastest legs in the league. It is next to impossible to score down low on him. His glove hand is really good as well. The reason he wasn't a starter was because he was behind Theodore and his positional play wasn't nearly as good as Theodore's. The reason Theodore is so good is because he plays every angle perfect.

Garon's game is reflex, anticipation and hockey sense. His downside was positional play, confidence and consistency.

The Kings have a pretty good goalie in Garon, all biased aside!!

I think the most important thing for a goalie is his positioning and reflexes. In order to be a great goalie you need to have both. Garon might not have better positioning but his speed and reflexes make up for everything. I think Garon has a perfect style and the angle he might not cover as well as Theodore he will make up with his athletisism. I haven't seen Garon in to many games but from what I'v seen I dont see a weakness in his positioning. He possisions himself for the first and all the shots that might come if there is a rebound.

But, I have all the respect in the world for Jose. I just think Garon might be a little better.

I went on the Canadiens' board a couple of weeks ago to ask about Mathieu - here's the link, got ALOT of POSITIVE feedback. Crossing finger's that most of it turns out to be true!
