It's not really that. As the first seed, we would always play the lowest seed possible. So there's a great possibility of a Rangers/Devils second round, as I expect Boston to beat the Caps. They should be able to score on Holtby, and their defense is miles better.
No, it is really that. What you just described here is "re-seeding." In other pro sports playoff systems, there is no such thing and 1-8 winner would play the 4-5 winner so we would play the Flyers-Pens winner in a non-NHL playoff format. But since there is re-seeding, if we were to advance, we would face the lowest possible seed.
They don't realize PIT has the hardest road to get to the cup. Assuming every team wind that's supposed to PIT would have to go through Philly, Boston, and the Rangers just to get to the finals. That's one hell of a road.

Oh OK. I thought it was just the opposite. Thanks.
If PITT remains healthy I can't honestly see them losing more than a couple of games the entire they are just too good . As for us , the Sens are going to be trouble with all that offense and our past history of not being able to score on Anderson
I'm not saying they can't do it, I'm simply stating its going to be extremely hard for them because they probably have the hardest road to come out of the East.
Bettman said Tortorella's comments come with the territory of Crosby being one of the game's biggest stars.
"The level of passion, emotion and gamesmanship can never be overestimated," Bettman said. "I think people who follow the game closely understand it's just noise. My guess is, Sidney Crosby is still the most popular player and has legions of fans in all ages in multiple countries. The fact that somebody might take a potshot, I guess, is the price of greatness."
thought i was seeing things, had to check link to make sure, you got be yanking me, if it was just "noise" how come it cost 20 large? How does"the price of greatness" result in this epic show of shillmanship, i know its not a real word, but he sure using the 29 and 1 way of running a league.Pathetic.

They got to two finals already. They showed they could win without Letang and Crosby. Honestly anybody not picking them is crazy. Will it be easy? No. Could the Rangers or Boston make the final or even any other East playoff team? Yep. But they have to be the favourite. They are very good even sans Malkin, Crosby, Letang... with them they have to be considered the best... their core has won and gone deep before as well.

Hahahahaha, so not only did they fine Torts 20g, the Comissioner also had to release a defensive statement to cover for Crosby.
Nope, no favoritism at all. Bettman is completely objective and unbiased when it comes to Crosby and Pittsburgh.

anyone pick up the Sports illustrated with Hank on the cover? Is the NHL preview any good and worth purchasing? (Need to validate that I'm not just buying it for Hank on the cover)
In Burke's end of the year presser, he made mention of the fact that he turned down a first rounder from a team that likely would finish in the 26-30 range in exchange for Clarke MacArthur. Rangers had a vacancy on the left side, and MacArthur not only plays the Rangers game, he's also on a manageable contract for another year after this one. Smells like the back-up plan for Nash.
Perhaps, but the Flyers have a way of getting underneath the skin of an opponent. Forward Scott*Hartnell embraces the villain role better than any player in the league. He talked openly about wanting to punch Malkin, Crosby and defenceman Kris*Letang in the face if given the opportunity and has predicted the series will turn into a "bloodbath."

Nassau source confirms that #isles are attempting to use the asbestos issue and "are building a case" so hold onto hats folks.

In how #isles might use it.. To say Coliseum is not adequately maintained by Nassau. Or negate lease and free them sooner than ltr.

Nassau believe #isles will use asbestos issue as lever to release them from lease earlier... accelerating venue situation and leverage
I guess I'll watch the draft lottery tonight. Here are the current standings and odds:
Columbus Blue Jackets - 25.0%
Edmonton Oilers - 18.8%
Montreal Canadiens - 14.2%
New York Islanders - 10.7%
Toronto Maple Leafs - 8.1%
Anaheim Ducks - 6.2%
Minnesota Wild - 4.7%
Carolina Hurricanes - 3.6%
Winnipeg Jets - 2.7%
Tampa Bay Lightning - 2.1%
Washington Capitals (from Colorado) - 1.5%
Buffalo Sabres - 1.1%
Dallas Stars - 0.8%
Calgary Flames - 0.5%
Hopefully the Fishies stay where they are, or preferably, go down. Also, I'm sick of the Oilers having all these high draft picks. They're entering Tanksburgh territory soon.
