2012 Mod Mock Draft

The annual Mod Mock Draft that Fel, TP, Jarick and myself participated in is up here - Minnesota ended up with a pair of American defensemen in Jacob Trouba and Jake McCabe over the two rounds.

Send all complaints my way.

Nice choices, although it's weird to see Murray drafted in 6

Was hoping he would drop one more but alas it didn't happen.

Should probably also note the last two first round picks I've done in this (Nino Niederreiter and Ryan Strome) ended up being taken by the Isles.

That's my ideal draft.

At least, my ideal first two picks. Then we trade up in the late second to snag Schmaltz somehow. Then it would be perfect.

Actually no that's what we need, defense in the first and second rounds. Our defensive prospects outside of Brodin is basically 3rd pairing or depth.

I can totally see the top 6 go in that exact order.

I really like the Trouba pick and can see the organization feeling the same way come draft day.

As for McCabe; as much as it would kill me to cheer for a Badger, I hope he's still on the board with our 2nd rounder.

Good drafting mods!

Aside from drafting a defensemen instead of Teuvo at #7, I like the first round pick. (sarcasm alert!)

McCabe is fine in the second. That's a good position to try out a d-man with potential.

The only time the Wild took D'men 1-2 like that was Cuma-Scandella; had Cuma not blown out his knees, that was poised to be a pretty good draft.

Hopefully this one will work the same minus the injuries.

So Isles pick Trouba, hmm that almost 100% leaves one of Dumba/Murray/Grigorenko for us.

I'm happy with your picks. There were some surprise picks to me tho. Especially in the D department. Well it's my first time checking out this annual thing so I guess I can forgive myself.

I still think we're going to pick either Reinhart or most likely Määttä. He is just... the logical pick. Might be a bit of a reach at #7 though.

No way i'd want Määttä, the little I've seen of him hasn't impressed me at all.

I'm happy with Trouba.

The gist of the voting:

Fel: "Who do you want in the second?"

(silence)

Fel: "Who do you want in the second?"

(silence)

Fel: "Come on we're on the clock, who do you want in the second?"

(silence)

I thought we all agreed on the first pick but the second one was just confusing.
