what is the likelyhood that Reilly Smith makes the team out of camp?
Thanks!
90%?
He's been on a game line every day this week. Gulutzen said he wanted to be down to close to the 23 man roster by Wednesday so we'll likely know for sure where he stands at tomorrow's practice, but he seems like he's going to be a Dallas Stars on January 19th.

This is actually kind of huge, and I almost started it's own thread. Sceviour was expected otherwise he would have already been on waivers.
Oleksiak though ... that's big. I'd say the chances of him playing on January 19th are pretty damn significant at this point.
Gully said they'd be getting down to the required team roster by Wednesday (EDIT: He actually said close too). It was earlier in the week, but he did say his goal was to have normal practices like they were leading into any ordinary game on Thursday and Friday.
You're not calling up Oleksiak and causing him to miss valuable games unless he's a serious contender for Top 6 duty. This isn't a guy that should be considered whatsoever for the 7th spot.
And then there's also a possibility that there's an injury. Maybe Larsen didn't improve much throughout the day? Who knows. I wonder if both of them had flown with the team to Chicago.

Injury definitely could be the culprit, but I honestly don't think so. Gully made it a point in his media availability to emphasize just how minor the issues were. He said he told the players and medical staff to shut down for any small minor mishap.
Waiting until tomorrow would be smart ... but it's too fun to play with D combos.
If Dillon-Larsen won Gully over in the scrimmage, could we see an Oleksiak-Robidas? Larsen started with Robidas ... although briefly. I don't think anyone could benefit more than having Oleksiak to his left.
As much as I want to preach patience, that the best Top 6 regardless of pairs I think they can ice. This would slide Benn back to the AHL if Oleksiak starts the year in Dallas.

The interesting part here is GMJN basically said Dillon and Benn are here to stay so that auto makes 7. The only other thing I can think of I this point is perhaps Joe is working on a trade? Robi? Idk. I don't see why they would pull Oleksiak from games just so they can watch him an extra day before sending him back.
