Portland Winterhawks are 3-3 in their Playoff-series (after a 3-0). Bärtschi would be a nice addition.

Which forward will make the team from SCB and the Lions?
Rüthemann, Plüss and Ambühl are without discussions but for the others?
I'm thinking of Monnet, Vermin (now that Bykov is out i think he's a great option), Deruns, Gardner, Cunti? IMO Bertschy is for next year

Bertschy is no option yet. Monnet is a lock, Cunti in my eyes also (especially as Center). Gardner without a chance, I like Vermin a lot but I don't think he's ready yet for international play (which is a lot different).

Plüss, Rüthemann, Monnet and Ambühl are locks. Gardner will maybe get some considerations, but shouldn't make the team. Vermin and Berger are interesting possibilities, but I don't think they will make the team. Regarding Cunti, I'll go against the mainstream opinion here. He creates a lot offensively, but he makes a lot of risky plays and I think he needs more experience before being ready for the WC. Bärtschi could also get some considerations, but I don't think he's better than any of the offensive wingers already on the team.

If the winterhawks are kicked out of POs, then i guess Bartschi will have a shot at the national team. If Nino has a shot, Bartschi should at least have a shot. In 5 games, Bartschi did more than Nino in 55 !

Maybe i go against the conventional Wisdom ... but possibly Pluss and Rutheman (my prefered Swiss player) have become old ? Monnet should, IMHO, be a lock. Cunti should be part of the team as well. No way Gardner would make the team.

I would take Cunti on board as well as Bartschi.

Plüss and Rüthemann are still very good hockey-players, also for PP and PK.

Bärtschi will surely get a spot if available. That would be freaking cool.

The lineup against Sweden:

Brunner - Romy - Moser
Niederreiter - Liniger - Wick
Sprunger - Bieber - Plüss
Rubin - Trachsler - Hollenstein
Sciaroni

Du Bois - Bezina
Loeffel - Von Gunten
Chiesa - Grossman
Kukan

Berra (Genoni)

scratched : Vauclair and Stephan

Interesting that Simpson keeps the Brunner-Romy-Moser line, but I don't believe Brunner and Moser will play on the same line once the team is complete. The Wick - Niederreiter combo is interesting too.

sehv.ch says (in the article about the Sweden-game) that around 10 players from the ZSC and SCB will join the team next week.

And still no news from Sbisa.

I think so yes. Without Josi and Weber, which are quite good at the blueline, he is one of the better offensive-defenseman.

Of course he is. I even think we may see a lot of him, he'll get a lot of ice-time.

So Streit, Sbisa and Von Gunten are locks, while Kukan and Chiesa will probably be the next guys cut.

It means five out of Du Bois, Bezina, Grossman, Vauclair, Loeffel and the Bern and ZSC players (I assume Furrer, Seger and Blindenbacher will be considered) will make the team.

With the potential there was, it's a bit of a disappointing lineup.

I'm going with Bezina, Du Bois, Vauclair, Loeffel and Furrer wihtout taking Blind' and Seger. Because if you take Seger and Blindenbacher they have to play, you can't take them for 7th and 8th spot whereas Loeffel, Bezina, Furrer or Du Bois can (If Vauclair can't make the team i would take Blindenbacher...)

Geering may also be a possibility, I'd actually take him in front of Loeffel.

But that won't happen. Blindenbacher will get a spot, as will Seger. At least Seger will accept every role I think, even as 7th D.

So I'd go with:
Streit, Sbisa, VonGunten, Blindenbacher, Seger, Furrer, Vauclair and Bezina.

And that's not so bad.

I'm not so sure about Seger, with Streit, Von Gunten and Blindenbacher on the team. Furrer should get in, and I'd be surprised if Bezina doesn't. Vauclair is a special case, with his recent concusion, and Du Bois, despite being, in my opinion, a bit limited at the international level, has more experience than the other guys. I also wouldn't assume Grossman is out, Simpson seems to really trust him.

My prediction: Streit, Sbisa, Von Gunten, Blindenbacher, Furrer, Bezina, Du Bois, and one of Vauclair and Grossman, depending on the extent of Vauclair's injury.

Seger would (in my opinion) be a very good choice for #7 or #8 (if he accepts that role). Very experienced, good shape, offensive power, good shot.

One reason may also be that Streit and Seger made a very nice pairing in the past. And I don't think Simpson will pair Streit and Sbisa together, so he needs a partner for our two NHL-players.

I've never been a big fan of pairing the two best defensemen, but I'd make an exception for Streit and Sbisa who I think would be perfect for each other.

That being said, I think you are right when predicting that Simpson will split them. In this case, I'd like to see Sbisa with Von Gunten, but I'm not sure who would be best suited to play with Streit.

And I don't remember the Streit-Seger pair, when was that? Krüger always played Streit with Keller and Seger with Forster, if I remember correctly.

I don't know exactly when, but Streit says himself:

"Ich habe schon mit Mathias Seger oder Severin Blindenbacher zusammen gespielt, daher sind mir diese beiden als Partner vertraut. Auch mit Sbisa würde das sicher gut funktionieren, da wir beide die nordamerikanische Spielweise gewohnt sind."

Translation: "I already played with Seger and Blindenbacher so I know them. Playing with Sbisa would also work out because we both play the NA-game."

The ideal defence would be...

Streit - Sbisa
Diaz - Josi
Weber - Von Gunten
