Feaster's Presser

Currently on the Fan 960, some points he has made:

- Does not want to be sitting in the same spot next April, changes need to be made.

- Says if things don't work for 3 years straight obviously things need to be changed

- There are a number of ways to improve your hockey team, and it’s not always by acquiring draft picks

- Likes what Baretschi, Bouma, and Aliu brought to the team

- Still wants to concentrate on getting younger, will make a push to sign more college free agents

- Will be meeting with owners and giving a recommendation on what to do with each individual player.

Well I approve of those points. Is the presser done yet, cause I'm waiting to listen to the whole thing after the feed cut out on me.

Did u guys hear on the fan exit interview that Joker wants a multi year or no deal? He doesn't want to go year by year, I hope this puts him on the ufa market.

Given how bare the market is he could get a lot on there.

Does Feaster give any hints as too his draft strategy??

No, I did miss the first couple minutes though.

Doesn't sound like he'll trade Iggy unless Jarome asks him to

It does sound like most UFAs will be gone though to make space for the young guys.

Him and Sutter both echoed that the best games this team had were when the young guys were called up due to injuries. That's the direction we're headed and I fully approve of it.

The process is definitely going to take some time, but at this point, doing what's best for the club is the most important thing and I'm sure the fans will understand.

Hoped for more, expected what we got.

And as for Jokinen, as far as I'm concerned, he can go play somewhere else. I've really soured on him in the last few weeks.

While I understand ones frustration but if traded, who's going to supply Jokinen's 20-25 goals?

Jokinen reached 20 goals once since playing here, whose to say he is going to be a 20 goal scorer again next year. I don't see it being a stretch for Baertschi reaching 20 goals. Well see what Backlund can bring after a disappointing year. Also Stajan has proven he can play the 2nd line, I was completely fine with his play and he could be around a 15 goal player next season given the opportunity.

Just the fact that he kept emphasizing he doesn't believe in blowing up the team to get draft picks. That's not to say Jarome won't be traded for younger players. We'll see I guess

If Flames don't trade Iggy or Kipper you can still drastically change the team through promotion and free agency. For example (just an example, still not sure which way I would go):

Goodbye - Hannan, Sarich, Jokinen, Moss, Stempniak, Kostopoulos

Keep - Kipper, Irving, Giordano, Bouwmeester, Butler, Smith, Brodie, Babchuk, Tanguay, Iginla, Cammalleri, Glencross, Comeau, Stajan, Jackman, Jones, Backlund

Possible promotions - Byron, Bouma, Horak, Baertschi, Wilson, Nemisz

UFA targets - Wideman, Garrison, Hudler, Boyes, Gaustad, Doan, David Jones (yes Parise and Suter are the obvious I know but slim chance they go to Cgy)

Wow, the overall feel of the forum really changed from "I think Joker should get about 4 million on a 3 year contract" prior to the deadline to "let him walk as UFA". If he's cheap enough (~65-75% his current AAV), why not keep him around for a few years? Throw him out against the big boys and let the younger guys have a little bit easier ice time.

If anything I think he is saying that if Iginla is traded it might not be for picks but prospects that are closer to then nhl, why hello Pilly .

I imagine Feaster will sign him to a contract where we like the cap hit but loath the length.

Much like the Tanguay signing.

For the love of God please sign Gaustad, or anyone that can win faceoffs for that matter. I can't handle the fact no one can win faceoffs on this team. Always have to start by chasing the puck. Waste of energy

All the elite teams have excellent puck possession time and it all starts with a faceoff win.

Only way I'm happy that Jokinen comes back is if he gets a 2 year deal for AT MOST 4 million per year but I'd prefer under 4. Very doubtful he signs on for that so I'm hoping he goes.

Stajan can and hopefully he will replace Jokinen on the second line

I think this is may favorite quote from the presser he is clearly upset and is willing to man up that this season was a failure.

Quote:
"The responsibility for where we are is mine. I'm the general manager of the hockey. I make the personnel decisions. I hire the coach. So, as we look at went wrong this season and as we review where we are, understand that from the perspective of the general manager of the hockey club and from the front office, the season has been a failure."

At the very least you'll have to give credit for Feaster being a man to stand in the spot light like and not to sugarcoat this.

I was half-expectingly to bring up the man games lost to injury, but I haven't seen any quote of that.

of course, we were actually playing out best when we had the most injuries.

When we had all the injuries he wouldn't even let the media talk about it so I doubt he sees it as an excuse.
