The Bargain Bin Thread: Players Available For Next To Nothing
List players from your team that could be had for a song.
Every team has some players that they would be glad to give away for free. And maybe those players would be of some interest to other teams. Salary dumps and "change of cenery" types are welcome. But I am hoping to see more than just Gomez and Komisarek here.
And please say if you are interested in any other players listed from other teams.
Gotta agree with Leino and weber....before the trade deadline I would have added Gragnani, but apparebtly DR found sombody dumb enough.....er who values Gragnani enough to give up an asset for him...
Kaberle is a fine powerplay defenseman still but redundant on a team with Markov back and not worth carrying on 5 on 5. I could see him help a team in need of a PP QB with capspace to spare and would take minimal return to get.
Place Steve Mason on that list. He's likely done in Columbus and many believe he still has NHL skills.
Perhaps because he's, like, demonstrated them from time to time? In years other than the Calder year?
He'd be on the available list based on his contract, but don't overstate the case.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

I'll admit this kid's defence is something to be desired for right now, but he isn't brutal by any means. And Sulzer was hardly an asset for us at the time. It's great to see that he worked out for you guys though.
yepp cause its reasonable to cross off a 23 year old goal tender on the worst team in the league. MAKES SOOO MUCH SENSE!
Why don't you watch Mr. Mason for the last three years and then come back to us on this. He may be successful somewhere but it isn't going to be in Columbus. He has a $0.10 head. I'm a season ticket holder who watches every game and has been watching goaltenders since the mid 1970's. The guy needs to go. I don't care what his age is or who he's playing behind. When he's outplayed by York and Sanford and it's evident the team in front of him has no confidence it's time to move on.
Again, my opinion only. Others share yours that he should be given another (that's #4 I think) chance.
I'd say the rights to Kristian Huselius could be grabbed very cheaply
He's a UFA and his rights hold no value after being injured 100 of the last 106 games. He'll be picked up in the off season by someone. Maybe even a cheap deal in Columbus but he holds no value right now.

You and I will have to disagree on this. Mason is no different than any other goaltender in the league in one aspect - as you mentioned - he has NHL skills that appear on occassion. It's his "off" time that is killer and appears far too often especially for a guy 4 years into the league. He should be getting better, stealing games, not regressing and demonstrating his weak psyche.
It's not his skill set that will keep him from realizing his potential. It's his ego and his head. I'm just not a fan and tired of watching the promise and all too often major fail at the worst times.
Montreal would have - Gomez, Kaberle that would be given away. No Montreal will not give away assets to any team to take them away. Gomez will just be buried and Kaberle is still a serviceable player.
