Honestly I wouldn't go nuts with the d-men.
Sign a guy like Bryan Allen for a couple of years that solidifies the top 4. Maybe take Babchuk off Calgary's hands as a PP specialist/RH shot as a 7th d-man.
Our D was a lot better after Schultz got here.
I wonder if this impacts Justin Schultz' decision -- would he want to play with RNH + Hall + Eberle and now Yakupov too?
Makes us more attractive for sure.

Hemsky and Hall playing out of position? Not a good idea.

It's mostly Vancouver fans getting upset.

One other really good thing about this is...well if you're a UFA d-man, why wouldn't you want to sign here next year? Probably a new coach (get that ironed out ASAP), 4 mega-star young forwards plus a nice supplement with Hemsky, Gags, Paajarvi, etc...and you can be THE guy on defence for them? Sounds like a dream come true to be honest.

Yakupov easy. He's the best player in this draft and we could use the depth after the Hall - RNH - Eberle line. Trading away 1st overalls is a bad idea, imo. Just take the kid and we have a top notch top 6 in the works.
Our D will be fine with Smid, Petry, Whitney, Schultz, possibly J Schultz, and Klefbom, Marincin, Tuebert, Gernat, Musil etc in the wings. Hell Dubbie may even be enough in net. We'd have the firepower to bail him out on those nights where he bleeds softies, and he can get super hot for stretches as well. So long as he can play well enough to not cost us a playoff spot and can heat up under pressure(two big ifs), of course. We may have a fairly complete team in a few years even if we don't change much.
But yeah, about the pick, just take Nail. We don't regret taking Hall or RNH, we won't regret taking Yakupov either.

Meh. I'm not mad at Columbus fans, they probably deserved better. It's mostly jealous Flames fans and nervous Canucks fans I'm fine with pissing off though, lol.

Yeah---I remember being at a game where the oilers beat the nucks something like 18-0 in the 80's--or something like that

You gotta take Yakupov unless a trade offer is mind-blowing.
But it now becomes imperative to get size in the top-six and to shore up that atrocious defence.

Congrats, Oilers! I'm glad that you guys got #1, the Blue Jackets organization would have found a way to ruin Yakupov.
