If Burke stayed at 5 and drafted the best player I would be ok

I would be ok with him say trading down with TB and taking their 2 1st rounders. Draft 10 and use 24 plus some prospects to land a top player or we could clear cap space by moving Connolly, Mac,Army, Lombo or Komi

Burke has some options

Compare this to Tambellini's smiling/ecstatic behaviour

I'm not sure, it just seems like EDM winning was kind of a shake-up. If they drafted Yakupov then they'd have Hemsky, Eberle and Yakupov on the right wing with Hall at left. It just seems like it wouldn't makke much sense for them to draft Yakupov when there are major holes on the backend and in net. They could benefit more from trading down, picking a defenceman and gaining more assets while doing so.

Tambellini is a goof

He'll be there next year too with the same **** eating grin. This is how you get players to play in Edmonton. They've figured it out.

lets just assume oilers pick yakupov 1st overall, this could be a blessing in disguise for columbus since nail already has injury issues rumor is the blue jackets could draft filip forsberg at 2nd, this could also benefit us with giving us a shot at grigorenko, galchenyuk or murray

i would be happy with any of these 3

Isles fan coming in peace....You guys better hope Galchenyuk falls to 5 unless you like Forsberg. Honestly think Gally would be a great fit for you guys.

EDM: Yakupov
CBJ: Grigorenko
MTL: Galchenyuk/Forsberg
NYI: Murray/Dumba

I'm mostly annoyed because I don't want to hear people holding up the "Edmonton model" in 2016 and whining about how we should tank for multiple 1st overall picks. this was a RIDICULOUS run of luck from them - looks like they may have made the wrong move by Hall > Seguin and now they get a bonus 1st overall to play with, in a draft where the choice at #1 is easy!

this sounds easy to say now, but i wouldn't mind teams not being allowed to pick in the top 5 in consecutive years. Edmonton would still have gotten a great talent boost by getting 1/6/1, but not have been rewarded so much for losing.

but the Leafs are fine. the worst case scenario, we're still getting one of Murray/Dumba/Forsberg. all quite good.

If he traded for Capitals 2 first rounders it could make things interesting.

Columbus won't take Grigorenko. More likely Murray or Forsberg, MTL takes Grigorenko, NYI Dumba/Forsberg, TOR Forsberg/Galchenyuk.

I would like to know this as well, ignore the fact that we're all sour, jealous, envious or whatever of Edmonton getting the 1st pick three years in a row ... how does it affect Toronto directly, positively or negatively

As long as Burke and the Leafs dont go off the board with the pick, and stick with someone that is in the consensus "Top 5" by many scouting programs and professional panels, they'll be getting a fantastic young player with all very good potential.

1. Yakapov
2. Murray
3. Grigorenko
4. Forsberg
5. Galchenyuk

All very impressive pieces to add to a prospect pool that already consists of Kadri, Colborne, Blacker, Biggs, Ross, McKegg, Ashton, Percy, Deschamps, Leivo, Nicholls, Abbott etc. Im not even adding the likes of Gardiner or Frattin we know they can play at this level.

The Leafs have such a deep and impressive prospect pool, its only a matter of time that some of these kids start stepping in and making an impact in their own sort of way.

And to add another prospect that would probably be our top rated (out of those 5), then I would be extremely pleased, no matter what position they play.

If for one will not be losing any sleep over not moving up.

it really doesnt affects us, they were going to pick in the top 3 anyway, but with oilers winning and drafting yakopov, columbus might go after forsberg, assuming the habs draft grigorenko and the isles take murray, it would leave us with galchenyuk or dumba

Unless things change in terms of draft order(I think it will), it looks like we will be drafting Galchenyuk.

It gives us a shot at moving up to 1. While I have held from day one that we need a guy like Murray more than anything, Yakupov gives us Kessel-lite, for our 2nd line. He has similar dynamic skating, a good shot, and uses his speed to create passes. Difference is he has better hands than Kessel, and while his shot isnt as good, he is a much better passer than Kessel was when he came to Toronto

Yakupov with Grabovski and Macarthur could be a great 2nd line. It would allow Kulemin to slot into the 3rd line, giving us the potential to have a real legit 3rd pairing of checkers, but with some offence

Kind of hurts our chances at Galchenyuk or Forsberg a bit imo.
I expected Edmonton to take Murray with the 2nd overall but now they have a 1st they've got Yakupov in the bag. I think CBJ also take a forward like Forsberg or takes a chance on Grigorenko or Galchenyuk. Montreal probably wants to take one of the three forwards also.

It gives us more of a chance to land one of the defence which I wouldn't be totally opposed to.

so you think the Isles take a D-man for sure? That would leave us with one of Grig/forsberg or Galy. If not, we're out of luck with those forwards.

Not a certainty.. Galchenyuk could go top 3. But we are definitely in a great spot at #5.

The GM of the Isles sounded like a Dman was the main target, so I would assume so.

Grig is definitely a no for the CBJ. They've had too many russians run away from them and grig is definitely one of those risky picks.

Galy will probably fall to us if Mtl doesn't take grig.

Id be pretty surprised if Columbus took Grigorenko. I predict Murray or Forsberg for them.

1)Yakupov
2)Murray
3)Galchenyuk/Grigo
4)Dumba
5)Galchenyuk/Grigo
