Are you suggesting that for Eberle? Because that is hilarious.
He's suggesting it for Gagner. Regardless, there's not a chance that Edmonton is trading Eberle. Gagner perhaps, but he's certainly no great solution for the offense and not worth a Tim Erixon type player.
NHL network had a bit on Yakupov and he was speaking English.
I really liked the kids attitude and of course his highlights were pretty sick too. The moment I found out the Oilers won the lottery I started thinking about all the ridiculous talent they're going to have up front. I won't lie I thought about the possibility of Sather making a deal with his old buddies in Alberta to finally get the Rangers that #1 pick. And I'm sure they need some good young D...but I know that conversation would start with McD +
What kind of deal would get it done?
Yea but i doubt they will be able to keep all those young players when they get out of their ELC.. Besides that they still have ZERO defensemen in their system or big leagues and their goalie situation is horrendous..
For the 1st overall it would probably take Staal or Girardi. A top pairing defenseman to build around. Would i trade Staal for the 1st overall.. tough choice but in the position we are in now, i probably wouldnt since i LOVE what our defense is going to look like with Erixon and McIlrath coming in, along with hopefully Sauer's healthy return next year. As good as their young offense looks, our young defense looks better.
Even if we slice up our roster + picks for Eberle, He isn't a fit on this team. As good as he is, under Torts, I honestly don't think he'll be as good as he is right now in EDM. We would probably have to trade Torts in that deal to make that work

just so you know, d-men Oscar Klefbom, Martin Marincin and David Musil are highly regarded prospects and Devan Dubnyk has emerged as our #1 goalie and as long as he plays the majority or the games next year, the Oilers record will no doubt improve.

What would we get in return? Renney and a first would work for me.

As much as you want to regard them as highly touted prospects, thats all they are at the moment. And Dubnyk emerged as your #1 because there is no1 else. He would be a backup goalie anywhere else. None of them have proven anything yet and until they do, like i said, they have Zero defenseman and no goalie. I stand by my statement until proven otherwise.

They are highly regarded, but still not bluechip defensive prospects. The Oilers would be licking their chops at a chance to scoop up MDZ, Erixon or McDonagh.
i think people overstate our defensive depth, who knows what the hell happened to sauer, vtank is a dud in my book and MCI is about the only thing we have coming up that has potential and is worth anything. two years ago we had great depth with sauer, mcd, del zotto, while we had staal girardi rozi etc playing, we have great defense and are set for the next while here but i dont think we have a ton of defensive depth to deal for upgrades...
forgot about erixon for some reason but him and MCI are the only blue chip prospects we have that arent playing now and i dont think sathers going to leave the cupboard empty and dish two guys that can fill roles we need in the future.
Gagner would not cost much and I don't see why would be interested. Eberle will cost tons and I don't see why Edmonton would move him. In other words, pretty much a non starter.
No, this is exactly the kind of trade Tambo will be hoping for. See if he can get someone to bite on guys like MPS and Gagner for a proven defensive defensemen so when the former flop Tambo can laugh at pulling a Sather.
If the Rangers aren't Getting that 1st, Hall, RNH, or Eberle, it's not worth it to hand them any of our defensive depth.
So realistically the answer is, no.
Thank you for saving me the time.
I have a huge man crush on Eberle for the record.
I'd offer Gaborik, Del Zotto for him and then try to use the cap-space to sign Parise or Suter or both.
Actually, the perfect scenario would be to make that trade, then sign Suter to a retirement deal at say a 5-6 mil cap hit, and sign Semin to a short-term deal, perhaps 2 years at 6 mil per.
