He was being punched in the back of the head though. That is way more dangerous than a concussion. That just spells out brain damage or broken neck. I'm not saying Hagelin was in the right, but Carkner's incident could have turned out way worse.
Shanahan should be replaced by a group of people. I think it is too much for one guy to handle and the inconsistency in his decisions is proof of it.
It is a group decision though, not just Shanahan. The league makes it look like its all on him so they can have a fall guy.
Yeah, there's an entire department of player safety. Shanahan's just the mouthpiece for the decision-making. It's surprising that so many people don't seem to get that.
Not that that's directed at you, Nova, but it's become quite obvious if you spend any time on the playoff board. Shanahan can do no right there, even if the explanations he gives for the suspensions make perfect sense.
"Shanahan didn't suspend Weber because he called up Holland and found out that Zetterberg was fine. No injury."
"Oh, how dare he judge suspensions based off injuries!"
"Well, that's because it's in the CBA that injuries should be a factor in determining suspension length. You know, the CBA? The thing that was around well before Shanahan took office?"
Vancouver having some serious issues this series. Wonder if they can find the problem, 'cause where there's smoke, there is usually..... Oh wait, maybe I shouldda used a different analogy
Well in that case I'm an idiot. But I would like to see more punishment for potentially dangerous plays. Remember the Skinner suspension? I agreed with it because intent was there. How was Skinner's kick worse than Carkner's mauling? I'm not saying any of you all said that. Just voicing my thoughts.
If I understand Shanahan's interview correctly, Carkner and Boyle had agreed to a fight before the faceoff, and Carkner was only suspended because of the excessive amount of punches he landed. Shanahan noted that none of the punches were at the head or Carkner would have received a harsher punishment.
With Skinner, it's simply as you said. The intent was there, there was no consent from the Blues player (as there allegedly was in the Carkner/Boyle fight), and the risk of injury was much higher.

You're not an idiot, the league makes it appear that it's all on Shanahan. He does have the final say I think, but I could be wrong.
Yeah that. I'm telling you these 10:30pm games kill me when I have to be up at 6am. Can't watch the whole game, but I stay up later than normal to catch atleast the first. See I need my 7-8 hours otherwise I have no clue what I'm talking about.

Ditto. I managed to hang in there until L.A. scored, and then I think I immediately fell asleep. West coast playoffs are brutal.
Lucic is starting to become the next Avery. Sure, he's an asset to have when he's playing his game, but it's easy to get him off his game and goad him into stupid penalties.
The last one he took in this past game was because Alzner made a crying motion in his direction. Genius!
Going to the main boards makes me so happy there arent many Canes fans here. If there were the likelihood of having complete idiots acting like they speak for the entire fsnbase would be much greater. Bruins and Caps fans losin their **** about absolutely nothing.

Gonna go complain on main boards about how us missing the playoffs is the referees' faults, one sec.

There's a reason I spend a lot of time on this board and almost none on the Bruins board. I'm seriously grateful that we have a decent-sized group of intelligent fans without the bandwagon, chest-thumping garbage. It gets REALLY old REALLY fast, particularly when you're also under siege by trolls from other fanbases.
Hey BB, could I possibly bug you for yet another playoff avatar?
Another GIF, this time for the LA Kings along the lines of....
"From Raleighwood..." (with a picture of downtown Raleigh skyline)
"To Hollywood" (the word "To" above the Hollywood sign)
Then flashes the LA Kings logo
I'm definitely going to use it if the Kings beat the Canucks tomorrow and/or if the Blackhawks lose to the Coyotes in the first round.
If you're not able to make it/don't have time to, that's okay.
