Well hopefully the Kings don't follow the Flyers tonight. I want Vancouer to be done tonight.
And what a freakin embarrassment by the Flyers. Their goaltending is just atrocious. Good thing they are only stuck with Byrz for the next 8 years. Good lord that dude is horrible. He's been crap all series and if the Flower didn't wilter, Pens would have had this series wrapped up in 4.
Bryz was actually the #1 star of March. He led the team to a 3-0 lead against arguably the best team in the league. No one's talking all that much **** about Fleury, and the Flyers scored 8 goals two games in a row.
Bryz is a quality goaltender who had a slightly off season. I don't think the Flyers are at all regretting locking him up longterm, I know I wouldn't be.
Well I don't venture all that much to the main boards, so I've got no idea. But I've seen nothing but criticism regarding Bryz on both these boards and on Twitter, so I can only report what I've seen. Apologies if my sample is not representative of the population...
Bryz and Fleury are both considered above average starting goaltenders in this league. What's more likely? Both became jokes of goaltenders overnight, at the same time, screwing over their teams for years to come? Or that it's just "that kind of series," with defense simply being ignored in lieu of a faster-paced style?
I think it's silly to judge the futures of these goaltenders with their respective teams over these last four games, because as of now, this is the highest scoring series in NHL history (45 goals in the first four games of a series is indeed a record).
As far as the eye test is concerned, I think that Bryz has played quite well in this series, particularly in Game 2.

I agree completely. Fleury's had a few bad games, but those don't make him a bad goalie at all. Same with Bryz. They're both very good, and a series with no defense at all doesn't change that.

Seconded. Or thirded. Whatever, they're both "good enough" to win. Two words - Antti Niemi.
Other than that, how bout those Sens????? Happy house tonight...
Grrr. I really wish the Flyers and Kings would have closed things out tonight.
+1 to those sentiments. I have this nightmare scenario in my head where the Pens come back to take that series, and I get institutionalized.
I would say in today's league that both Fleury and Bryz are certainly "above average" goaltenders, with Fleury definitely having on the main a bad series. But some of the goals Bryz allowed last night make me wonder if there's something not 100% with him. He didn't appear to be particularly agile, mobile, or following the puck well at all. But what do I know?
Actually, i would call Bryz an average goalie rather then an above average one, at least this season. Very average in fact as his save pct behind a defense that good was below .910.
And the knock on Fleury has always been that he's so notoriously inconsistent that it will keep him from ever being a truly great goalie.
I'd say both of those are playing out as expected in this series, although the defenses certainly aren't helping things.
meh. its the playoffs. everyone freaks out every day about something. next series the winner of the pens/flyers could have the best save percentage of the second round. theyre just playing a crazy series. kinda plays into my stats dont really mean much theory. sometimes two teams are gonna eschew "the plan" and just settle it like two rams banging into each other over and over till one falls down and stays down. save percentages....plus/minus......records leading after one period.....whoever scores last wins sometimes.
i have found myself an LA fan. cant help myself. i thought my interest in them would fade with jj leaving but i still dig em. made no sense they were so mediocre during the majority of the regular season. mike richards didnt have a great year, but he is looking more like himself in this series.

I think what this series illustrates mostly is that it's easy to be considered a great team defensively when you have the puck the whole game. When either of these teams doesn't have a puck possession advantage they look like the Hurricanes defensively.

Amen. Dustin Brown's playing an unbelievable series, he's been electrifying every time he touches the puck.

And that Quick kid ain't too bad either.
Hopefully they lock it up on sunday.
PS - what's with the NHL giving all these teams so many days off between games? Games should be every OTHER day, end of story, who does the NHL think it is? The NBA?
